Hi
My new wargaming project in conjunction with my playtest of Dan Meresys "The Men Who Would Be Kings", I have searched for a good Swedish angle of the colonial wars in Africa and the Swedish Officers in the Service of King Leopold and the Free Congo State are one track that I will follow leter on...
But I wanted some thing evem more exotic...
So I decided to run a project revolving around Cabo Corso - The Swedish Gold Coast in 1650-1663, present-day Ghana. The 1650´s are not really the focus of the rules but as the rules are so general, as Lion Rampant, it is no problem to use them just as they are 200 years erlier, a man got to do what a man got to do to get a Swedish connection ;)
More about my project at my blog (http://dalauppror.blogspot.se/2015/02/cabo-corso-swedish-gold-coast.html)

Interesting story.
I look forward to seeing what comes up.
Years ago (1980s) I ran the three player battle in Africa in about the same time frame.
Don't remember much about it, but had fun.

Hi
I thought it was best to get something painted up to set the scene for my Africa project, so what is better then some wild life, So I have searched the local toyshops for some African animals that would match 28mm minis and ended up with a Rhino and a Hippo, just gave them a wash, a bases and they was ready for play.
More pictures of Hippo and friends at my blog. (http://dalauppror.blogspot.se/2015/02/hippo-with-friends.html)

Great idea Michael!

I have always wanted to game the Brandenburg fortress on the Gold Coast.

Great project!
I did something similar many moons ago. I found The thesis by György Novaky most helpful. Please let me know if you are missing some info. Hopefully I can help. And I am curious, which miniature will you use for the villain Hendrik Carlof? ;D

Thanks for the tip Traveller, any link to the book ?
For my Cabo Corso, Swedish Goald Coast 1650 project that are a part of my playtest of Dan Merseys new Colonial rules The Men Who Would Be Kings I really needed some native tribals...so I got me a box of the Wargames Factory Zulu minis...I would have prefered Masai style shields but at least these minis was cheap...

It is 30 minis in a box, this was enought for me to build 3 units of 8 minis with native tribals, a tribal unit by the rules are 16 minis !!!
But I have argued with Dan that it will take to much minis for gamers to get started, so Dan have been kind enought to included "Skirmish Kings" in the ruleas based on my suggestions, at least for now.
In "Skirmish Kings" the only difference are that you field half sized unit, and that work perfect for me as now I only need 24-64 minis for a field force, much easier to achive painting and money wise...
The remaining 6 minis of the 30 in the box was designated to be captured slaves...

Hi
I continue my work woth the Cabo Corso project. As this little project are on a budget I did some kitbashing to get me the Native Musketees to look at least a bit like the ones in the Johan Vilde comic books, most of them was drawn with metal helmets... must be hot in Africa... but I go for african Tribals in outdated european helmets to:) More pictures at my blog. Great looking Battle and report. Did the rules flow well? It was
probably the African Heat and
thirst that caused your memory loss as to who one. Can't wait for next report.

Thank you Sir !
The rules did flow well considering this our first game and stil, under development, If you like the Lion Rampant rules you will absolutely like these I think, it is not straight LR but some of the basic thoughts in the rules are similar, but really to eraly to tell more.
Now I have to cure mu heat strok by the aftican sun and use of outdated metal helmets...

This is looking great Michael. I look forward to seeing the project, and the rules, develop over the year.

Really nice looking setup.
Love your terrain.
Look forward to following your thread.

The converted tribals are brilliant. Excellent idea giving some of them 16th century helmets.
