Title: Amazons of Barsoom: an IHMN Company
Post by: oabee on 04 March 2015, 06:45:23 PM
I've been looking for some time to develop an Amazonian-type Company from E. R. Burrough's Barsoom. Having been waiting and waiting for my figures from the Tin Man Kickstarter, I seized upon the Raging Heroes Si-Fi Blood Vestals as the vehicle for my first attempt. The result--so far--is below. A PDF may be found here:

The Raging Heroes figures are shown below. In the Command Box, Thuvia is the top figure, Llana is lower right, and Kara Vas is lower left. Janai and Olvia could be any pistol-armed figure, although I did not equip Janai with a knife, so that would have to be removed. I envisioned her as fulfilling the sniper role in the Company, although you could of course equip her with a knife if you choose. As for Thuvia, the Unearthly Beauty talent is, in this case, quite literal, needing no explanation, and Lightning Draw is a benefit from her enhanced Telepathic abilities, which allow her to sense impending danger and act preemptively. Electro-static Waistcoats are a Martian version with the same effect as the Earthly item, and are not really waistcoats at all but rather very tiny mechanical bits attached to a harness strap or whatnot.

Be warned that the Blood Vestal figures each have one, um, naked breast.   :o
I am torn whether to cover the offending body part with green stuff or resort to "Body Painting," or to portray it in its natural form, which would--of course--be in accordance with Burrough's Barsoomian design.

Bronze Age Miniatures has a pair of Banths, which he calls Dead Earth Beasts:

I would like to be on the record as noting that the lack of coverage of Red Martian bodies was Burrough's idea, not mine.

Shocking, really.

Not that I disapprove...... ;)

Shown below is a selection of female Martians from Tin Man's Kickstarter Lost World Princesses and More (Mars/Barsoom) which were to form my Martian Amazon Company. When they do arrive (they were promised for May/2014), I'll need to come up with a different Company.....

Nice! Especially the one with the big headdress! Completely missed that Kickstarter. Probably a good thing for my wallet.

Well, the good new is that the Tin Man Kickstarter minis (see above) are starting to ship! I guess I'll have to work up a rival Barsoomian Company to my Amazons for these fine figures with the, ummm, fine figures.   :-*  Considering how well-armed the ladies are, you might say they are figures to die for.  lol

Let's see, I've assumed that Thuvia lived in Helium after marrying Carthoris, so I've based Amazons of Barsoom in Helium. Perhaps these Tin Man warriorettes could be a gang of assassins from Zodanga....or maybe Dusar........maybe not even Red Martians, but a different race...........

I'm open to suggestions. ???

I'm actually starting to lean toward the Lotharians as the basis for my new Barsoomian Amazon Company. White/pale skinned, auburn hair, and--here's the clincher--able to project illusions.  o_o A Mystically Powerful Company of beautiful assassins has a certain allure, n'est-ce pas?

I love those Tin Man gals.  Especially the one with the Hitachi wand.  She would make a great leader for my Valkeeri!

Agreed. Mine still languish in their boxes, unpainted, as I fear my skills with a brush will not do them justice. Not to mention the lack of time due to numerous other projects yet unfinished, and the ever-growing demands of real life.  o_o I've contacted a few painting services about commissioning their work for the Vestals, but am still unsure of the quality of their finished product. A painting style that would do well for an Orc or a Space Marine would not necessarily translate well for the Vestals.

If anyone could recommend a quality painter for these beautiful figures, on either side of the Atlantic, I would appreciate it.  :D
