Title: Primaeval Designs / DeeZee - are they one and the same?
Post by: Captain Blood on March 10, 2015, 08:54:40 AM
I'm starting to plan a possible Stone Age table and game... To use all those Copplestone and Reaper cave people I've had sitting in a box for years, Plus some of the lovely new figures from Lucid Eye. I need to acquire some wildlife. Not too much... a few wolves. A cave bear or two. Perhaps a sabre-tooth and a woolly mammoth  ::) ;)

Looking at the prehistoric animals ranges from Primaeval Designs and DeeZee - both ranges are sculpted by Richard Deasey (DeeZee, geddit?), and in some cases, as far as I can tell, the models look to be identical. But in some cases they don't. But it's sometimes hard to tell from grainy thumbnails on the internet.
The mammoths, for instance, look identical. The wolf packs look quite different.
Does anyone know if these are in fact one and the same range of models under two different brand names (for different geographies perhaps?)
Or are they actually two different but similar ranges from the same sculptor?

And if the latter - which is the better realised range of models?

All info gratefully received :)

Have you considered toy mammoths

loads to choose from here

http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_odkw=&_osacat=175692&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR6.TRC1.A0.H0.XMammoth.TRS0&_nkw=Mammoth&ghostText=&_sacat=175692 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_odkw=&_osacat=175692&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR6.TRC1.A0.H0.XMammoth.TRS0&_nkw=Mammoth&ghostText=&_sacat=175692)

'Like their modern relatives, mammoths were quite large. The largest known species reached heights in the region of 4 m (13 ft) at the shoulder and weighs up to 8 tonnes (9 short tons), while exceptionally large males may have exceeded 12 tonnes (13 short tons).'

Based on this info you would need a toy that stands about 6-7cm at the shoulder

Richard Deasey sculpted the original DeeZee figs for Trent Miniatures; DeeZee is now owned by Arcane Scenery.  Deasey is supposedly sculpting Primeval Designs for Acheson Creations.  The figs will be close but should not be the same.

Just been thinking about these yesterday, does Acheson Creations has a european retailler? Could use a thunder beast ... Edit: never mind just found him in the Arcane Scenery webshop.  ;)
