Title: Salute Surprises?
Post by: Atheling on March 11, 2015, 11:48:06 AM
So, what is it that you're after this coming Salute?

Usually there are a few surprises tucked away by various manufacturers but there seems to be very little this year......

The two I know of:

Gripping Beast Arab (Light and Heavy?) Plastic Cavalry.

Perry Miniatures 'Light' Late 15th Century Cavalry.

Anyone got anything to add?

Darrell.

Well I am hopeful that Scarab Miniatures will have their Mark V* tank available  :)

For those who don’t know this was a stretched version of the Mark V British tank.

Been looking forward to getting my hands on some of these for a while now.

The Gripping Beast cavalry is already high on the wanted list, but I hope to find some more as well.

I hope Curteys has some more Arthurians (cavalry?) out, but they seem to be stuck in the Medieval period now.

I hope Warfare Miniatures has the first GNW Russians ready. Their Swedes are simply superb and I'm totally sold on this range.

Would like to find a (printed) copy of Songs Of Drums And Tomahawks. Come to think of it maybe it will be at WarCon next week!

Footsore Miniatures isn't at Salute (sniff)

And you never know. Perhaps someone will see the light and surprise me with with a 15th C East Roman range or even better some Nationalist and Republican infantry in 28mm.

That's a bit of a bummer, I was hoping to pick up some of their Late Saxons for next year as we (Lance and Longbow Society) are doing wait for it.... Hastings!

Our group has started playing a lot of skirmish games such as Pulp Alley, One Page Kill Team, 7TV...

It will be nice being able to rummage through boxes of loose figures looking for "characters".

I don't know how much I'm allowed to reveal - but all I can say is that 'The Dice Bag Lady' is getting herself into a brand new bag. Very much worth seeking her out I'd say.

I think Footsore are there, on the Warlord Games stand.

I haven't mentioned this anywhere before, but Osprey Games may be showing off the first North Star Figures/ Osprey Games plastic figures we're releasing in July. I think I'll be on their stand in the morning to chat about them.

Wargames Emporium will have all the new 2nd Afghan War figures from Artizan Design, and lots of Pulp Figures. I'm also planning to give them some stock of the Cigar Box Battles mats if you wanted to see what they are like.

Now that is news - thanks Nick.

Any hints on period / subject matter for this new plastic venture?

And whether they're 'trad' sculpts (yay!) or CAD renders (boo!)  ;)

Indeed the project is a Fantasy one, but don't dismiss the plastic figures if you're just a Historical player, there are lots of Early Medieval possibilities there.

Possibly some 28mm Pulp/WW2 flying GI Girls too.

On the planned list is a Milites war band for Cross and Crescent from GB, a couple of 4 Ground buildings, some extra minis from GCT games for my Bushido and a couple of Rubicon tanks for my Chain of Command Russians.

However, like a little boy, as this Salute is just after payday (!), I'll have a pot of money in my pocket for those (exciting) unplanned purchases to add to the lead/must read pile!!!!! :D

It's unusually my first show of the year and as I'm off on holiday on the Sunday, I need to pick up lots of reading material.

See you all in the pre-paid Q!

Eureka are apparently premiering some Bruegel/Bosch inspired figures that look rather tasty. According to Nic at Eureka there will be 11 foot figures, two 'horses, one rider and a dog in the full set  8)

EDIT - ah, drat - didn't see that Nic had already mentioned the "28mm chaos creatures" a couple of posts up. I'm still excited by them  ::)

I placed my first order to collect at Salute last night with Fenris Games so the countdown has begun. tickets bough, flights booked and Oyster card about to be fed.

My impression so far is that there is less that I know about that I want than in previous years but that can change. The Lucid Eye figures look very good and there are lots of plastic boxed sets to pick up and I want a good look at a Cigar Box gaming mat as they look very tempting.

We are already very excited about Frostgrave and 'lots of wizardy types' are on the shopping list. I was hoping to see a demo game of it as well but I don't think there is one.

Have you seen my Faceache announcement on Frostgrave?

Unfortunately it's not a Salute release, so we'll have nothing to sell. It'll be out in July, and the Nickstarter pre-order program will start in May.

What we will have to show for Frostgrave is the painted figures (all by Kev Dallimore) on the Osprey stand, with myself and Joe the author around to chat to. We'll also have the painted '3 Ups' of the plastic figures, if you don't know what they are, come by the Osprey stand.

We'll also have a Frostgrave participation game going on in the Wargames Illustrated area. There's room for 4 players at a time, we'll give you a stripped down Wizards party that should give you a feel for the game and you'll be done in 1/2 hour.

Yes, that was a bit of exciting news, a bit spoilt by my trying to explain why I was so excited to some mundanes.

I am looking at a lot of my terrain and wondering about winterising it and my brother is thinking about adding snow to the bases of the Otherworld hobgoblins he is working on.

I think you'll find that there's a TFL demo game of 'Fighting Season' - Leigh Neville's forthcoming CoC supplement for present day COIN in Afghanistan/Iraq. Not so sure about it's impending release at the same time though... however, TFL do have a habit of surprising people.

They do- I had the honour of taking part in a play test of their tactical level Boer War game at WorLard ("wor" being a NE colloquialism meaning "our") at our club in Durham. It was an excellent game, played very well, reflected the learning curve in British tactics and also introduced a new mechanism (a stroke of genius- it will be copied!) that I have never encountered in any game in my wargaming career!

We'll have a demo of the second edition of our 7TV rules, plus we'll have a pre-release of the latest Argonauts - http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=77203.0

Not sure if that counts as a surprise, but I can get one of Team Crooked to jump out at you with a wet flannel if that helps?

Ahh I came here for a cheeky plug and was greeted with my own grinning mug, thanks Cubs!

It was going to be a secret, then I thought I may as well build up as much hype as I could, as being called "The Dice Bag Lady" people might not come over if they don't need/want bags, and miss the new goodies. So I've also done a little bit of rebranding as Bad Squiddo Games, and having The Dice Bag Lady as a wing.

I'll be launching a range of minis, officially not the first launch, as I do have one of my own models, but I'll have another DBL one
Baggy with Squid Launcher!! - http://thedicebaglady.net/baggy-with-squid-launcher/

As well as....[hopefully 4] female vikings, which are designed as troops to slot into any dark age or fantasy!) gaming "with the lads" shieldmaidens.

This fits with the launch of the Believable Female Miniatures range I've started to amass from a variety of manufacturers - http://thedicebaglady.net/female-miniatures/ which I'll have. No more rifling through blisters for a cool woman model, I've done that so you don't have to!

I'll have dice bags of course! My hands have been rubbish lately with RSI but I have a decent amount of stock still (I took it off the site temporarily so I'd have plenty for Salute!) so you can grab a cool bag without having to wait for my hands to stop being rubbish.

Gripping Beast Approved dice bags too for SAGA, super swish. And a tonne of SAGA stuff too, including neat little sets with the dice and gems, and bundle deals.

I'll exclusively have those RSC Stunty Henchmen, including some awesome new releases.

A tonne of brand new merch - notebooks, rulers, tape measures, badges, bottle opener keyrings... endless!

This is a great stall to take small people as there's lots of bright shiny pocket money purchases, and people who don't wargame (the bags get bought for all sorts of purposes, especially those squiddos!) as well as yourself, for top notch gaming gubbins! And my lovely service!

And somehow fitting this all in 6 feet  :D

If you haven't heard of me before, lots of this won't make sense, so pop on the website and have a look around!

IF YOU PRE ORDER YOU GET A FREE TEMPORARY TATTOO SHEET!

No, the plastic henchmen, officially called Frostgrave Soldiers, are a North Star Military Figures product, no connection to our chums at Fireforge Games at all. The picture on your site is one of ours.

The confusion may have come from a post where I mentioned the Fireforge Games foot sergeants are also great for using as Frostgrave Soldiers, and in fact a lot of the photos in the rulebook feature the Fireforge figures Kev Dallimore painted up specifically for photo shoot.

Thanks for clearing that out, really looking forward in seeing the plastic set! I have also read about a sprue with items such as lanterns and all. Would that also be a plastic sprue or mini metal sprues? Either of the options would be interesting but a plastic one would be awesome.

Nic at Eureka will be bringing over some of the brand new Yemeni tribal rebels just cast up this week. Seven figures designed for the Aden Insurgency of the 1960s but some could readily be used for earlier periods. He was bagging them up today and asked me to mention them. Lovely figures I bought a few myself.

If you've heard of The Dice Bag Lady, you will know of the excellent dice bags I create. A series of wrist injuries (from making the things!) kicked me into making the brave step of diversifying into the big wide world of miniatures.

You may have heard of the "Believable Female Miniatures Project" - http://thedicebaglady.net/female-miniatures/

In a nutshell, I have begun to stock as many models as I can find which are female and not overtly sexualised or, well, silly. You know. no chainmail bikinis or crotchless plate armour etc. Just cool women, battling, adventuring etc.

The next step for The Dice Bag Lady is to produce a range of historical female miniatures that fit this ethos. The first will be viking shieldmaidens.

Here is the very first of many! A very limited (very!) amount will be at Salute, and available to buy from the webshop a short while afterwards. THREE others of her sisters in arms are currently in various stages of the sculpting process.

Sculpted by Phil Hynes and painted up by Paul Cubbin.

We'll have the famouse Walled Farm - painted and ready to go at £70.00 instead of £90+:

http://www.em4miniatures.com/acatalog/Ready_Painted_Buildings.html

There's a lot of stuff in this set so we have a limited number at the show (probably 5). So, if you fancy grabbing this chance for a bargain price (and no shipping costs) - this is it.

I'm happy to reserve a set for a deposit of £10 - email me: enquiries@em4miniatures.com or pm me here if you want one.

Also, the FULL range of Dunwich Detectives and Future Warriors along with all available Spacelords. And various plastics - SF, Fantasy, ACW.

And, of course, we are the original "bits and bobs" stand with loads of dice of all persuasions, accessories, Vallejo, counters, glue etc etc. And for VBCW enthusiast who appears round about 12 noon - digestive biscuits (hopefully McVities but could be Lidl...!  :o

Looking forward to it.
