Title: Salute: IHMN Games
Post by: Tehet on 26 March 2015, 01:41:45 PM
COGS will be taking our fast-play version of IHMN to Salute at the Excel Centre in London on 25th April. We have refined the scenarios and companies since Hammerhead so that we now have around 45 demi-companies and 12 scenarios for participants to choose from. Though we might scale down the number of companies so we can actually fit in the car to get there!

We are doing a final test run this Sunday at the Sanctuary Gaming Centre in Sutton-in-Ashfield, so if any of you Incorrigibles fancy trying this out you are most welcome to join us...

Anybody else going to Salute whether as visitor or club?

What's different in the fast play version?

Hi

Sorry for the late reply,

Fast Play.

Companies are limited to 100 points (maximum 4 figures).
Play is on a 2 x 2 Board (with enough terrain to break up LOS and prevent super-chargers etcetera).
Each Game lasts a maximum of 6 turns.
During the first turn, no running, shooting or mystical powers are allowed. This gives the players a chance to manoeuvre and avoids non-shooty companies being blown off the board.

We have adapted some of the scenarios given in the rulebooks and created a number of our own (14 so far). The Scenario route works better than the GW 'everybody shoot, everybody charge' routine.

Game tend to last around 30 minutes and having objectives and very few figures does make players think very carefully about how they move. A game can be won and lost by the end of the third turn.

The Companies or as we like to call them 'Demi-companies'
Having a limit of 100 points does restrict what you can take and of course certain characters such as Akhenaton and Alan Quatermain are worth that alone. Some combatants have been 'modified' i.e. removing talents such as 'nighteyes' from Vampires unless it has an effect on the scenario.

When I first mooted the idea, which came about as a result of having to change the game (due to the non-arrival of kickstarter boards), it was uncertain as to whether it would work, but we have found it does very well.

GCN/COGS will be taking this to Salute on the 25th April. We are hoping to run at least 3 boards with one in reserve. Once I have run the scenarios (one example below) past the great creator/s and if they are happy for me to do so, I will PDF and put all of them on this forum after the show together with some DC samples.

Any chance for publication pdf with scenarios and companies? Good idea with "Fast Play" for demo-game. :)

I'm just sorting out a club blog with our webmaster, which I'm told will allow me to put the stuff on!

Thanks Craig, I've sent you a missive with the relevant details...

Meanwhile, I finally unloaded some of the photos from Salute... First off pictures of some of the companies used (with thanks to Caliver for the use of their Cobblestone mat!)...

The one in the middle with the cloak over his face is The Hungarian Ambassador from Eureka Miniatures' "Pax Limpopo" range:

I don't recognise the others, I'm afraid.

It is truly amazing what treasures you can find hidden away in both manufacturers and your own collections.

I even found a Bouda (or Hyena demon) for my new Zulu company, though I think it is a one-off...

I will be sporting these again, along with around twenty plus new demi-companies at the Sanctuary this weekend.  See thread http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=80592.0

What this chap said.

Planning on running one or two intro games in a week or so and I'd be keen to streamline things using this format.  It has potential to bring some waverers into the IHMN fold so could be jolly useful of they get a good first impression!
