Title: Spanish Civil War 'Big CoC'
Post by: scrivs on 27 March 2015, 12:51:36 PM
Yesterday evening James, Nick, Rich and myself played a game of Big Chain of Command pitting two platoons of Bando Nacional Infantry against two platoons of Ejército Popular de la República

Both sides had plenty of supports but in the end it was a very one-sided fight.

Good practice for my game at Cannon this weekend.

Loads more pictures and a battle report over on Scrivsland. (http://scrivsland.blogspot.co.uk/2015/03/spanish-civil-war-with-big-guns.html)

As always I'm overly impressed by your game. If jealousy had a name it would be Jim.  :D

Another AWE-sum battle report, scrivs. I think I'd enjoy Big CoC myself.

I'm sorry... someone had to be childish enough to respond, may as well be me.  :)

What?  lol I am looking for a rule set for Interwar. I'm interested in trying both teams.

Scrivs' battle reports are an inspiration, and I have gotten all my Empress SCW stuffs primed, anyway.

Well personally and I think the guys will agree, that you could do far worse than Chain of Command for that. I've a few miles on the clock and they are the best rules I've ever come across for the size of game they are meant for.

A belated welcome to LAF by the way.  :)

Thank you, on both counts. :)

Is Chain of Command good for Great War as well?

That I couldn't say as I don't play Great War, or know enough about it to take an educated guess. Offhand I don't see why they shouldn't, except perhaps with regard to the quite large platoons involved... but then again SCW units are of similar size.

Certainly I'm exploring using them for the Rif War and I know there is an adaptation laid out in the TFL 2014 Christmas Special for using them in the Great War, so some people certainly think so at least.

I believe H.M. and Scrivs are in the process of getting figures and stuff together for that in any case, so hopefully they'll give you their opinion...

James Morris and myself have started playing Chain of Command with WWI, he has made a start on the French, myself the Germans.

We have played a couple of games so far - both using later war forces, but plan to eventually do some Verdun 1916 games.

Yup, have enjoyed both my games so far, despite losing!  Rich C's opinion is it works better for mid-late war, when units have interesting sections and teams - my French are great fun for the wacky variety of bombers, rifle grenades, Chauchats and riflemen.  The bombardment rules are very flavourful as well.
