My first post on LAF, so a bit of excitement :)
I'd like to share some pics of one of my ongoing projects: a small force of eldar based on a dogs-of-war theme. So no aspect warriors, no craftworld bright colour schemes: just a fistful of rude irregulars mercs. All with a few minis waiting for a paintjob since years - and with just a few time available for hobby.
First of all a group of guardians/soldiers of fortune.

A close up of the support weapon team

A group of hardened irregular scouts

And another shot for the lady-with-machete and his henchmen

Thank you all for reading.

Well hello and welcome!
Your painting is lovely! Nice face detail, muted colours and you're great with the edge highlighting.
Not a complaint, but I would use a piece of guitar string for the wire that connects the powerpack and cannon. It's a lot finer than the electrical wire (?) you've used.
But of course they're your models! That splash of colour really makes the group photo sing!

Ah, back when Eldar were mercs 8)
Great stuff :)
cheers

Not sure about the bows and arrows, but the modelling and painting is very nice; great work! :)

great job!!

Hi,
thanks everybody for the nice comments!

Thank you Momotaro, this is a great suggestion: will be good for the second guardian squad (one of my game mates plays just guitar ;))

You're right warburton, maybe bows and harrows are a bit osé: but the idea of a Rambo-Boba Fett-scout eldar was too fun to let it go! lol
Thank you again: some more model - I hope - soon.
-
I like those alot, the vibe and execution. Very tidy painting :D

I very much like the idea of the small merc warband - and the floaty weapon, and the bows too. 8)
Now I'm tempted to make a similar force, in red and black....
-
Nice work - like the white/green/orange/yellow colour scheme
-
Very nice - been a long while since I saw Eldar like that. :)
I hope that you're planning to expand them? Holo/energy shields, electro whips, winged jump packs, etc., would all look great with a force like this. :)
-
Wow, some truly original work, I love it!!
-
Edit: double-post, sorry!
-
Thanks again to everybody!

@Vanvlak: colours of anachy! :) I choosed grey tones to give 'em a sort of paramilitary look: maybe red and black will remember a bit Shaim An. But of course it will depend a lot from your execution :)

Hi Major: yes, I will expand them (I and my mates play 750-1000 pt. armies). All your ideas are great, I will mind 'em (winged jump packs 8) 8) 8))

Brilliant ideas.
I love that support weapon and think the bows are a nice touch.

If you'd like to incorporate some colour or pattern, but don't want to spoil the clean military look, you might try painting some simple pencil stripes - look for pictures of Mass Effect suits of armour for some really good examples. :)

Chapeau :)

Just looked for it on Google: another good idea, maybe I'll save it for the captain. I begin to be in debt with this community! :)

Really nice figures! Love the bows 8)
-
These are great. Even the pretty dodgy old Space Crusade Eldar Attack figs look good with your clean style.
Thats a great first forum post too, good job :)
-
Great job, can't believe is missed this earlier.
-
Thank you all guys, being here is very motivating! lol

Thanks Cheetor: maybe a bit of nostalgia and interchangeable heavy weapons have inspired me! :)

After too much time, finally an upgrade for my Eldar project: Dreadnought!
And a group shot: some eldar mercs with his new heavy support.

I really like that, minus the weapons (don't do it for me). Cool to see some Eldar on here though. That's all I played for the 12-13 years I was a GW gamer.

Thank you all for the kind replies!

Yes, the scratchbuild weapons are a bit clumsy. Let's say I'm learning by doing : )
-
Very cool, I have to echo the weapons comment. What if you mounted them underneath instead?

Thank you for commenting Beffcake!
Along the WIP I have tought about it, but the problem I faced was gravity: I tried with magnets, but even if weapons are very light, I had a lot of problems (maybe 'cause of poor magnets). So I decided for physical pins. Some more ideas?
-
I love the Eldar with the bow and arrows, such a great idea.
-
Very nice, love the limited colour scheme very effective.
-
Since no one has asked yet, where is the dreadnaught model from? The paint scheme works really well on vehicles. :)

It's from Space Crusade

It's from Space Crusade
Just like half of my 40k army : )
Thank you all again, being here is very motivating (and inspiring too, indeed!)

Really nice painting on these. I love the floating weapons generator-thing you made. Two flight stand bases glued together with greeblies all over it. Consider this idea stolen, because it's just too cool. And the Bow and Arrow guys are awesome.

Thank Michka. Come safetly, steal freely lol We are here just for this, I think. I like a lot your work on non-stormtrooper and I'll steal it too!

I like these, but agree that the Dread weapons don't really look very convincing...
It may be worth trawling somewhere like Ebay for cheap toys whose weapons you can steal, or for a bundle of suitable guns like these (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/warhammer-40-000-eldar-bright-lances-x9-metal-parts-/252017665465?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3aad6c65b9) or these (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Warhammer-40k-eldar-weapons-Scatter-laser-shuriken-cannon-Laser-lance-/171848206469?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2802f38885) for example.
Failing that, I think you may have to consider mashing a few cheap electronics components with some plasticard to get something appropriate.

Thank you Major_G, I'll browse some electronics shop, that's a good idea!

If you'd like some more ideas for weapons using electronic components, have a look at the weapon designs from the film "District 9" - they could be made with simple plastic card shapes, and augmented with wire and electrical components. Cheap, and quite futuristic! :)
