I put these on the WAB forum but I know not everyone here is on that so I thought I'd stick them on here as well.
Just recently finished these BH BEF Cavalry. I'm assuming one troop and the command are mounted and the other troop are dismounted. I don't think i'll be buying anymore BH BEF as the figures are ok but not outstanding (I think even the sculptor said as much on this forum), certainly the offerings which should be coming from Great War and Musketeer in the near future will be a real improvement I suspect. I will probably try to expand this to a full regiment in time but not all will be mounted.
Varnish is still an ongoing issue, the windsor and newton one I'm using leaves a bit of a sheen but will go over them again once I've found a product I'm happy with. Have finally managed to order some HMG Matt Varnish from Figures in Comfort today so hopefully that will be better.
As you can see BH mounted come with a separate arm so you can give the trooper an SMLE or 1908 Sabre.

Ah, the Battle Honours stuff! I had a section of their infantry in my BEF army as well. Nice figures, but a little awkward from a modern point of view. Good value for money, though, although I´d prefer GWM nowadays.

Battle Honours UK website closed down, I believe that my figures were part of their last series of orders, they are still available through oldglory15s in the US though.

It does seem a pity that just as peoples interest in 28mm WW1 gaming is on the rise, one of the most complete ranges is getting harder to come by. I think in the fullness of time all the BEF figures will be available from other manufacturers notably Musketeer whose IWI range just seems to be getting better and better.
In that regard, I'm hoping the future cavalry won't be lancers as they made up a very small proportion of the british cavalry, troopers carrying SMLE or 1908 Pattern Sabre or even just riding with all equipment 'stowed' would be more flexible, a 'slung' lance could be added to make the troopers lancers if required. - thats me just getting my personal preference in - as I know the sculptor reads and writes here occasionally ;)
One detail I noticed on the dismounted BH Officer which I think is incorrect and should probably be changed in future dismounted cavalry figures is that the BH officer has a sword on his belt. I'm pretty sure for both the officers and troopers the sabre was attached to the saddle so therefore would not be carried with him when dismounted, he could of course carry the sword in his hand - but if sheathed it would be left with the horse. I think even FM Haig in photos I've seen used this arrangement, though you do see some generals in photos with swords attached to their belts (even cavalry Generals) these I'm sure are only for pictures as the 1908 and 1912 Pattern cavalry swords have a blade length of 35 inches making them probably too long to be carried on the hip comfortably. The length was supposed to allow the cavalryman charging, headown, at full stretch to be able to outreach an Uhlan. Anyway I'm disgressing slightly here so apologies for that, the point is that any dismounted BEF cavalry officers should probably not have swords -its not really a very serious problem but if you want to be 100% accurate it shouldn't be there.
