Hi guys,
I'm after 28mm figs that could be used for luftwaffe field division troops . I've got some of the artizan late war grenadiers but I'm not sure how close they come to matching. I've trawled through a few older posts but can't really find anything post 2010.
Have any manufacturers popped up with anything in recent years? If not what comes closest to doing the job?
Thanks

As far as I know the Luftwaffe field divisions used the same type of uniform as the infantry, the only difference being the colour of the uniform which was blue-grey instead of green-grey. And obviously they had other rank insignia and so on. Like this

Vallejo even makes a "luftwaffe blue" colour, but I think it's a bit bright.
Artizans late war grenadiers would certainly fit, I'm not sure but according to the above picture they seem to have worn the usual zeltbahn camouflage too.
The "Painting War" magazine on German WWII troops have few luftwaffe guides in it, that might be a good reference.

Thanks for getting back to me. The only other bit of kit I can seem to find that looks a little different is this one

and this one from the osprey book

Seems like they have some other sort of jacket that looks different. Its got 5 buttons down the middle but doesnt look like a zeltbarn tent cover or the artizan smock

I agree that vallejo colour is too bright, I usually just use it for the highlights

There were a few differences.
From November 1943 the LFD units were transferred to Heer and used Heer stocks.
But their tunic was different, buttons were covered and no chest pockets, they also have collar patches.
They had their own cam jacket, which had only 1 pocket on left side.
They also had high boots for longer as they were low priority for the new boots and gaitors, preferred them (as most did) and hung onto them as long as possible. They made wide use of Zeltbahn as well.
Combined with uniform colour difference they would look quite different, but to most just the colour difference will be enough.
regards
Mathew

Have a look in various Fallschirmjager ranges and you will find some suitable figures (maybe head swaps needed )

Mix with grenadiers figures in Zeltbahn etc could work

Thanks for the help guys!

Hey guys,
Just reviving the old thread, I was reading through Warlord Games' Salute update and spotted what seems to be an upcoming Luftwaffe Field Divisions set that they are producing. It's about halfway down the page where they are showing off the Jagdtiger. Can't see too much of the figures but it seems like someone has finally put them in the pipeline!

Warlord, soon!!!

Hi guys,
I asked the Warlord support team when the figures would be coming out and they said they're aiming to have the Field division troops out in August (give or take) and the Battle of the Bulge focus later in the year (for the winter US troops)
-
I built a unit of LFD out of the Warlord blitzkrieg german plastics, using a couple helmeted heads, capped heads from both the blitzkrieg & the late war sets, and a few capped metal heads I came across. The NCO is wearing the officers cap that wasnt as stiff, as I read somewhere they preferred the more floppy look and removed the stiffening inserts. The one problem I had was the chest bag molded on the torsos, but other than that the rest of the fig was pretty much perfect. Close enough for me. A few left over SMGs from the pioneer metal bits and I purposely gave them less kit that the rest of my grenadiers. Heres a pic of them finished, but not flocked yet.

Nicely done! The blue grey came up well

Here we go fellas. Is it just me or do the dimensions on a few of them look a little different than usual to warlord figures? Granted I have just woken up

According to a source, they are not separate heads... so it could be that, although they are listed as separate head on the website, although not on the box, which isn't unusual for warlord.
Could be a different sculptor than the norm, wg has a few in it's stable, also quick question, would any of them be stuiable for a luftwaffe field division officer? if not any recommendations? especially among warlords selection.

For an Officer I can recommend this guy:
store.warlordgames.com/collections/german-fallschirmjager/products/fallschirmjager-oberst-steiner (http://store.warlordgames.com/collections/german-fallschirmjager/products/fallschirmjager-oberst-steiner)
Great figure with loads of character.

I think the faces do look different from the usual and also the legs on the guys at the front of the pictures do look quite skinny compared to other figures. From looking at the graphic they have for the front of the box it doesn't say anything about seperate heads, most of the other boxes have that seperate head system image down the bottom.

That guy definately does look the part

''From looking at the graphic they have for the front of the box it doesn't say anything about separate heads, most of the other boxes have that seperate head system image down the bottom.''
It's funny, the new Polish box on the other hand is not marked as separate head on either the box or web site entry but all the figures in the box apart from the nco ARE separate head.
I wish warlord would do so clear labeling, i've noticed especially online the entries don't match up with what it says on the box.
Moiterei...I like it, having dreams of a smalle/elite rapid insertion force of fallschirmjager.
-
Yeh its a tad weird. I'd be interested to hear from anyone who does end up buying them.
Small force soon to become large haha
-
Check the Warlord website, they have a 10-man squad of Luftwaffe Field Division in a box.
-
Yup thats the one we're talking about
-
I like the sculpts, they look more natural than some of the usual cartoony sculpts.
-
I was kind of hoping they'd be their regular figures as I was hoping to match them up with a bunch of artizan figures and some of the new grenadiers for a bit of variety. They look a little like the italian army figures from warlord proportions wise
