I had high hopes to get started earlier this year but sometimes things just don't go like planned. Meh, such is life.
In short, I will keep this topic as a tome for all of my Inquisitor related stuff, like ideas, plans, WIP pics, more ideas etc. And to start things off, what does a Inquisitor need? Enemies of the Imperium. And plenty of them. And since I wanted to get back on the scratchbuilding and converting horse for a long time now, let's pick something that involves a few bits, greenstuff and a lot of fun. And my idea of fun is Father Nurgle :P
Cue my Blog for the longwinded version: http://20mmandthensome.blogspot.nl/2015/04/plague-drone-conversion-part-1.html
And the short version. I like the Blight Drone. I can't afford the Blight Drone. Why not make something in the same area like one, but cheaper? And here is where I am now:

Could be a couple a weeks till there is another update.
-
Looks good 8)
I rather like the blight drone as well and it'll be good to see a different version as I bet they're not all supposed to be the same.
Looking forward to seeing where you go with this :)
cheers
James
-
Cool, looking forward to seeing this thing completed.
-
That's a nice start to the conversion, can't wait to see how the final product turns out.
And I have to agree with Jimbibbly: they're not supposed to all be the same. On that point GW's "Chaos" is displeasinlgy orderly and uniform...
-
Great start! So will this be 54mm or 28mm? Watching with interest
-
An interesting mix of parts to make an original version of one of GW best models.
8)
Looking forward to more progress.
:D
-
I also agree, diversity is the key. Promising start! :)
-
Great start! So will this be 54mm or 28mm? Watching with interest
Good one! 28mm. The biomechanical creature, of this size, would work fine in 54mm as well :) Though the more I look at it, the more Half Life 2 vibes I get (good ones!)
-
I am also, slowly building. A 28mm inquisition band, and there opponents.
-
As yoou probably saw on the Imperial Shrine topic here http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=77177.0 (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=77177.0) I had been looking for input in what a Imperial roadside shrine would look like.
Long version on my Blog: http://20mmandthensome.blogspot.nl/2015/04/imperial-roadway-shrines-part-1.html
Short version: I made some doodles on my thoughts on a shrine:
(http://i1373.photobucket.com/albums/ag363/gunbird20mmunbird20mm/Projects/Blog/2015-04-08%2022.49.19_zpsruayq7qt.jpg) (http://s1373.photobucket.com/user/gunbird20mmunbird20mm/media/Projects/Blog/2015-04-08%2022.49.19_zpsruayq7qt.jpg.html)
1 is too complex for now, 2 and 3 are nice but I need to coats some wood and sand it for nr 3 so I'll start off with number 2, as I have the parts casted on hand.
(http://i1373.photobucket.com/albums/ag363/gunbird20mmunbird20mm/Projects/Blog/2015-04-082022.59.26_zps1wdukfhl.jpg) (http://s1373.photobucket.com/user/gunbird20mmunbird20mm/media/Projects/Blog/2015-04-082022.59.26_zps1wdukfhl.jpg.html)
I'm getting better at greenstuff moulding with less failures each day, but these 2 parts, with a bit of trimming and sanding, were all I need for the basics. Now I just need to make a detailed base for the pole to go into, on a round 20-25mm base.
-
Looking good :)
-
Nice start, I'm looking forward to the finished product.
I've never seen that skull in an alcove detail before, very useful bit. (Could do with a few of those casts myself... ;) )
-
Another thing I'm working on is Chaos Heavy Gun Servitors that can also count as Bikers of sorts. Bear with me. If not, read my Blog >> http://20mmandthensome.blogspot.nl/2015/03/doomwheel-part-1.html
Old school epic players may remember it. the Chaos Doomwheel.
(http://i1373.photobucket.com/albums/ag363/gunbird20mmunbird20mm/Projects/Doomwheel/1423236373084_zpswopyqyki.jpg) (http://s1373.photobucket.com/user/gunbird20mmunbird20mm/media/Projects/Doomwheel/1423236373084_zpswopyqyki.jpg.html)
(http://i1373.photobucket.com/albums/ag363/gunbird20mmunbird20mm/Projects/Doomwheel/EN_DW4_zpsfjzy9l2f.jpg) (http://s1373.photobucket.com/user/gunbird20mmunbird20mm/media/Projects/Doomwheel/EN_DW4_zpsfjzy9l2f.jpg.html)
I think they can be used in Inquisitor as well. Either as servitors or bikes or whatever designation I as a DM can stick on it.
I received several envelopes with bits sofar, either paid for the shipping or got them for free, for which I thank my benefactors. My mate Sander even sent me a box full of Imperial Guard en Space Marine bits for nothing, bless him. Anyway, we had a brainstormsession tonight with a few mates to see how we want to arm them. Options were assault cannons, lascannons, twin bolters, heavy bolter, (heavy) flamer, CCW, meltaguns, plasmaguns, next to the twin linked bolter that is already on it (the gargoyle faces). It had to be within budget for 2 more models, so a total of 4, for a max of 10 euros of additional bits. Nothing beats a brainstormsession while kneedeep in bits!
In thye end, we settled for a twin Assault cannon version using the Dreadnaught assault cannon so it can double as a grenade launcher, twin autocannons using the old Ork Biker ones, twin (heavy) flamer one using the Sentinels flamers and a CCW version using lots of left over spikes and pointy bits, plus 2 CCW off the Sentinel (that nobody ever uses). Thx to my mates Sander's giftbox we managed to find all of the weapons in one go! I've got enough parts to make 2 more basic wheels (just tanktracks and 5x 40mm 2mm thick round bases glued together) and I'm edging towards using biker bases for these, 50x25mm pill shaped ones. 12 of them in 2mm MDF will set me back 1.20 Pounds but then the postage hits. Hmmm. I've got a big bag of plastic 25x50mm bases....not a hard choice, I will just round off the edges and save me the expense. Jay, 10 euros saved!
Now off to actually build 2 more.
-
Ah-ha! Now I know what you want to build!
It seems so obvious when I think about it (a wargaming friend built one ~5 years ago).
-
Cat's out of the bag now ;)
And since I could not sleep yet, I made my first shrine. A bit of doodling in 3D using brass rod, greenstuff bits and a 25mm multiplex 2mm base (I'm not a fan of GW's version of concrete shoes). I'm not going to junk the base, when painted, I'll probably dust it with some light pigments, but no grass or anything. And you can make up your own story why there is another loose cable on the side :D
(http://i1373.photobucket.com/albums/ag363/gunbird20mmunbird20mm/Projects/Blog/Imperial%20Shrine%201_zpsvdta6tya.jpg) (http://s1373.photobucket.com/user/gunbird20mmunbird20mm/media/Projects/Blog/Imperial%20Shrine%201_zpsvdta6tya.jpg.html)
The back looks a bit rough, but is actually smooth. Not everything is perfectly straight, but I'm not an engineer ;)
-
Lots of good work and looking forward to what you decide to do with that doom wheel biker/heavy Gun Servitor.
-
Time flies, I've been casting a few bits each night but have made so much progress I'm running out of greenstuff!
(http://i1373.photobucket.com/albums/ag363/gunbird20mmunbird20mm/Projects/Blog/2015-04-28%2022.10.00_zpsx4yymieg.jpg) (http://s1373.photobucket.com/user/gunbird20mmunbird20mm/media/Projects/Blog/2015-04-28%2022.10.00_zpsx4yymieg.jpg.html)
Baseplates for the 40K Triple A service, speakers for on top, a ever growing set of mines (really simple things!)and fans from the droppod for the latest member of Team Nurgle, Epic scale Blight Drones that I will use as Nurgle Servo Skulls with light weapons (no bigger then pistol sized)
Also made a new shrine that makes me feel meh.... needs a roof and a exhaust port on the back, but this is it really. Sell me on it.
(http://i1373.photobucket.com/albums/ag363/gunbird20mmunbird20mm/Projects/Blog/2015-04-28%2022.07.20_zps448xls6e.jpg) (http://s1373.photobucket.com/user/gunbird20mmunbird20mm/media/Projects/Blog/2015-04-28%2022.07.20_zps448xls6e.jpg.html)
It is missing something I think.
Made a list who will be in Team Nurgle:
1 Lord
1 2nd in command
1 Priest
3 Plague Drones
4 Doomwheels
5 teeny Blight Drones
20 Cultists
and a couple of Nurglings
The Lord will be simple:
(http://i1373.photobucket.com/albums/ag363/gunbird20mmunbird20mm/Projects/Blog/Ogre_zpsvgmyfzbl.jpg) (http://s1373.photobucket.com/user/gunbird20mmunbird20mm/media/Projects/Blog/Ogre_zpsvgmyfzbl.jpg.html)
I need to keep the costs down, and I like the conversion as it uses a standard figure, Greenstuff and a Ork bit and some little bits I have in my bits box.
2nd in command is a classic model
(http://i1373.photobucket.com/albums/ag363/gunbird20mmunbird20mm/Projects/Blog/champ_zpsoyyp50kj.jpg) (http://s1373.photobucket.com/user/gunbird20mmunbird20mm/media/Projects/Blog/champ_zpsoyyp50kj.jpg.html)
Usually found with a broken mace, I managed to find one after posting on Oldhammer and paying for it in under 15 minutes (and it arrived today). I will arm him with a plasma pistol.
For a Priest this would be ideal:
(http://i1373.photobucket.com/albums/ag363/gunbird20mmunbird20mm/Projects/Blog/herald_zpsdncz9vg9.jpg) (http://s1373.photobucket.com/user/gunbird20mmunbird20mm/media/Projects/Blog/herald_zpsdncz9vg9.jpg.html)
....but financially Forgeworld is a nono right now. I have a non GW Chaos Dwarf sorceror that looks nice too with some extra sculpting, so that will probably be it.
Teensy Blight drones: http://wargamingtrader.com/epic-blight-drones-tutorial Really simple to make :)
-
awwww the mini drones are cute
-
Good stuff - I like the shrine :)
-
Base for the miniature Blight Drone is ready for sculpting (well, as soon as the base dries) later tonight at the club.
(http://i1373.photobucket.com/albums/ag363/gunbird20mmunbird20mm/Projects/Blog/IMAG1081_zps1nvzthtn.jpg) (http://s1373.photobucket.com/user/gunbird20mmunbird20mm/media/Projects/Blog/IMAG1081_zps1nvzthtn.jpg.html)
-
nice
-
Lovely work, Gunbird.
It is really good to see original stuff.
:-* :-*
Nurgle really is the Daddy!
8)
-
This is great, really promising stuff :)
While the ideas for the figures are fantastic and coming along nicely, its the shrine that appeals to me most. Other than bombed out ruins I dont see a whole lot of the day-to-day 40k setting in miniature, so this really appeals.
The silly but entertaining "Priest" movie featured a futuristic urban theocracy with a lot of similarities with the 40K universe, including confessionals and the like. It might be worth mining for a few ideas if you plan to push the "set dressing" side of things a bit further.
-
Really cool stuff! Keep on!
-
Some lovely stuff here, well done! 8)
I might suggest Milliput (grey-yellow) rather than GS for casting your detailing parts though. It's much cheaper, and it tools well should you need to file/cut/drill it afterwards.
-
Thx MG, I've looked at that, but Milliput is not recommended as it leaves a residue in the moulds that needs to be cleaned out every time lest it ruins the clay when I reshape it when the mould wears out (got this advice from a few fellow sculpting modellers). As for the price, I've just bought about a metre of greenstuff for less then a pack of Milliput extra fine that I'm used to buying, so that's ok. At the current rate 1 metre will last me 4 weeks :o
-
Well, I talc the moulds before I use the Milliput, but I can see that it could be more "aggressive" for the mould material.
I do like white Milliput, but I don't think it's worth four times the price of the regular stuff for 95% of situations - I therefore only buy it occasionally when a task demands it.
Anyway, with a metre of GS, it sounds like you're set for a while! ;)
-
Wow, you're really going at this hard, aren't you? I just hope I can keep up with you.
Lovely Baby Blight Drone (Bloatfly?).
-
SO MUCH GOODNESS HERE :P
It reminds me I need ot crack on with some more of my inquisitorial warband items haha...
-
Spent my evening at the local GW looking at the new Assasins game and spending time sculpting Tiny Drone 1, made some good progress. Next up is working on the fans.
(http://i1373.photobucket.com/albums/ag363/gunbird20mmunbird20mm/Projects/Blog/001_zpsrvmcmnv0.jpg) (http://s1373.photobucket.com/user/gunbird20mmunbird20mm/media/Projects/Blog/001_zpsrvmcmnv0.jpg.html)
-
That fly-drone is a great little kitbash. I like the shrines as well; I might do something similar using yours as inspiration. Got to do something with all these flagellant bits I've got lying around!
-
Keep it up, you're doing great! :)
-
Followers of my Blog already know this, but with my wife in and out of the hospital for the last few months I focussed purely on the simple things I can do in front of the tv, like my 20mm Middle East village, leaving the rest in my hobbyroom as I had no real interest or time for it. I decied to take one of the boxes to the club tonight, though at 27 degrees inside, my 5 minute epoxy became 1 minute epoxy! I did make some progress on the Doomwheels, 2 are now ready to mount guns, but 2 of them are still without lids as I left one of my bitz bags at home by accident.
(http://i1373.photobucket.com/albums/ag363/gunbird20mmunbird20mm/Projects/Blog/002_zpsityvemit.jpg) (http://s1373.photobucket.com/user/gunbird20mmunbird20mm/media/Projects/Blog/002_zpsityvemit.jpg.html)
Bought some biker bases online in May that suit them very well I think. It is good to make some progress on them, I can now start to figure out how I want to do the various gunmounts. I've decided to drop the idea for a CC version, and won't do magnetised swappable guns, I'll stick to what I have and make that work. KISS all the way.
-
Sweet!
-
Got to get some thing done while doing those long visits.
-
They work a treat :)
cheers
James
-
Those are brilliant!
-
What do you say when a friend offers you a free built Stormwolf with no querstions asked? You say hell yeah! Then take a knife and hack away at it, to the horror of some of the locals at the GW shop ;D
This will be the ride of my Inquistors warband (as well as a 20mm dropship, explanation here http://20mmandthensome.blogspot.nl/2015/07/you-never-know-what-will-happen-next-day.html (http://20mmandthensome.blogspot.nl/2015/07/you-never-know-what-will-happen-next-day.html)
Stripped down it looks much, much better then the original with all of the SW regalia and unneeded wings and winglets and weapon mounts removed
(http://i1373.photobucket.com/albums/ag363/gunbird20mmunbird20mm/Projects/Blog/001_zpsywkwct52.jpg) (http://s1373.photobucket.com/user/gunbird20mmunbird20mm/media/Projects/Blog/001_zpsywkwct52.jpg.html)
Still plenty to do!
-
You are right: It does look much better 'stripped dpwn'.
8)
-
Looks much better already. I didn't like that ship when it first came out, but you have me reconsidering it.
I imagine the design process for making a Warhammer 40K vehicle goes something like this:
Step 1: Original design is brought in. It's given the initial approval.
Step 2: Then they hand the piece over to their crack team of specialists for modification.
Step 3: The specialists ask a panel of ten year olds what to add to the vehicle to make it "cooler".
Step 4: Requisite skulls, chains, wolf-heads, wings, and guns are added to the vehicle.
Step 5: Check with a new panel of eight year olds for final approval.
Step 6: The customer sees the new vehicle in the catalog and wonders why he both hates and kinda likes the thing at the same time.
or maybe that's just me.
-
Spent a hobbynight magnetizing all 4 Doomwheels and added the first 2 sets of weapons. The boys at the Inquisiumda game today were impressed :D
(http://i1373.photobucket.com/albums/ag363/gunbird20mmunbird20mm/Projects/Blog/011_zpskw1gxjit.jpg) (http://s1373.photobucket.com/user/gunbird20mmunbird20mm/media/Projects/Blog/011_zpskw1gxjit.jpg.html)
Using the single magnet approach. I've looked at a magnet and a pin for stability but found just a magnet keeps it in place really well and being able to rotate the weapons a bit adds more drama.
-
They look great dude! Can't wait to see them painted up
-
Trying out/relearning skills as I have not painted stuff for nearly 18 months. Which in my case means weathering the heck out of things :)
Tomorrow evening I'm trying out some filters, and some pigments during the week.
-
Very nice.
8)
I somehow missed those Doomwheels- Very clever!
:-* :-*
-
Just lost my filter virginity. Damned easy to use to be honest, I will pick up some more filters and go to town with them, I'm liking these!
After filter on the left, before filter on the right.
(http://i1373.photobucket.com/albums/ag363/gunbird20mmunbird20mm/Projects/Blog/006_zpsgdvyc0uu.jpg) (http://s1373.photobucket.com/user/gunbird20mmunbird20mm/media/Projects/Blog/006_zpsgdvyc0uu.jpg.html)
I'll let everything dry for 24 hours, then matte coat them, and then a very fine rust ring around the neck and parts of the welding I think....but weathering powders is another experiment for me :)

Sweet !
2 questions : where are those gas bottles from and what brand of filter?
-
They've come out really, really nice.
-
I'm not ever hooking my camp stove up to one of those! :o
Great painting though!
-
Lesson learned ; do NOT use a thinner based matte varnish over a filter (that has not dried properly). Everything has been salvaged, it now is just a slight satin varnish, so I will recoat again tonight.
(http://i1373.photobucket.com/albums/ag363/gunbird20mmunbird20mm/Projects/Blog/003_zpslb3ruoue.jpg) (http://s1373.photobucket.com/user/gunbird20mmunbird20mm/media/Projects/Blog/003_zpslb3ruoue.jpg.html)
ZIZ, these are from Zinge Industries, large bottles, 5 for 5 Pounds. http://zinge.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&path=110_128&product_id=360 (http://zinge.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&path=110_128&product_id=360) At 27mm, they are really, really big! I could use some welding gas bottles for 28mm though, surprised I never found any other then 1:35 scale.
Modhail; Health and Safety?
-
Ah yes, the learning moment with filters: apply them after varnishing. Otherwise all your good work is almost for nothing and all the subtleness is lost. But the gas bottles look excellent! Most fitting for PA games too.
-
Modhail; Health and Safety?
No, those guys piss me off with their nannying, I prefer their organisations ancient predecessor: Common Sense & Survival Instinct... ;)
-
Mal; I thought that applied to weathering powders? The coat of varnish didn't alter the tanks much.
Mod; I'll try and remember to bring them over on friday.
-

That IS big.
1/48 welding gas bottles exist, but they'll cost you as they're part of a resin conversion kit by Gaso.line :
http://www.phpshopxml.com/quakit.shop/CID/668d64e76fe25a2c40c1d6c3210fe445/function/itemPageDisplay/shopItemCode/GAS48100K (http://www.phpshopxml.com/quakit.shop/CID/668d64e76fe25a2c40c1d6c3210fe445/function/itemPageDisplay/shopItemCode/GAS48100K)
Then again, there are some nice extras in that kit like, a workbench, lathe, vise, drill press, electrical motor and a et of photo-etched tools and toolboxes.
You can see more in detail over here : http://www.network54.com/Forum/409173/thread/1405062866/1-48+Lot+sale (http://www.network54.com/Forum/409173/thread/1405062866/1-48+Lot+sale)
-
Dear lord, I followed that link thinking a Fallout 3 type of workbench would be nice, but it's not 36 euro nice! When the bottles are finished I'll drop pics off at Zinge and ask them if they'd be interested in doing 28mm scaled gas bottles of that type. Who knows, they might listen :)
-
Told you, they'd cost you.
But, as said, you do get a lot in that kit, and even the cabine can be used as a PA makeshift shack IMO.
I've always been interested in Modeltech Studios Power Tools set (among others): http://modeltechstudios.com/hoscaleshoppowertoolpack1variety-1.aspx (http://modeltechstudios.com/hoscaleshoppowertoolpack1variety-1.aspx)
Even tried to place an order once, but when he refused to give me an estimate on postage (in a rather rude way) I steered away from his site.
(Cost for postage outside US was added after paying. I would have gone along with that if he gave me an estimate, but apparently $70 wasn't enough for him to get of his lazy ass)
-
They've turned out great, even with the mistake. But we all learn from those, it's part of the fun :)
cheers
James
-
Well, after a disastrous attempt at using weathering powders I've sentenced myself to watching tutorial videos for a few nights cause I managed to bollox up so completely it had my mentor doing a ROLFLOL behind his PC. So no weathering powder for the canister, and I'm going to dig up an old wreck for experimenting.
So, I did the right thing tonight and matte coated the canisters with my old Vallejo Matte Varnish.....which did nothing :? (which made me remember why I stopped using the stuff in the first place) So I just reapplied Daler-Rowney matte varnish over that coat and now they are matt as can be. Finished pics tomorrow maybe.
-
Finished!

On with the next bit.
-
And the next bit is already here!
Picked up these 2nd hand OOP Forgeworld Sewer entrances a few months back. Some paint, washes, pencil and a few tufts and ready for Necromunda and Inquisitor/munda and if there are enough rats around, Mordheim too. Necro model not by me, bought that 2nd hand, not gotten round to stripping it yet.

Fenris has 28mm gas bottles.
Great painting btw.

Yes, I know, I had planned to pick some up after seeing them in the flesh at Crisis but sadly he could not make it. Maybe next time.
I reshot pictures of the tanks and polished the pictures up a bit so they are more presentable on a website.

Picked up some chaps on the 2nd hand market that will be nice additions to anyones side.

Also, will start my first building ruin for at least 5 years I think, this one will be foamboard all over. I'll be sort of copying this one:

Which will be handy for many, many systems.

After requesting peoples second hand bikes, literally the first box I open looking for a bit to help someone out, has bikes in it. For the love of God...

De-Chaosified, pimped a bit, need some more work and thin bases, then a good rusty paintjob. Anyone happen to have some Space Marine bike wheels spare? I have a another bike but no wheels, if not I'll use it as a real wheelless scrapper and dunk it on base by itself.
-
Added some filler caps to the bikes, opened 3 of them.

I think they need a bit more, but not sure what.

Pennants, maybe?

I know my own limitations. When I get my head around it I can make some pretty nice stuff, but sometimes (well, mostly) I don't focus that well and I look around for other peoples work, which is 99% of the time out of my price league.
But a few weeks back on the LAF someone offered a fully painted Necromunda Cawdor gang for about what I can affordl so I jumped on it and spent my last reserve gaming cash on it. They arrived na few days ago.

And they are actually really nice, hardly a paint chip (on most of them), old school green bases and a nice colour scheme, these will be put to use for Necromunda and Inquisitor, and I'm quite happy with them.
