Title: VSF Pirate Crew
Post by: Governor General on April 10, 2015, 08:16:06 PM
All together my scurvy crew of Victorian Pirates! Most of the figs are from West Wind. The crouching rifleman in the center bottom row is a Deadland Rail Wars mini. The man machine is from Citadel, there's a date of 1988 on it. I like the fact they read pirate in a later 19th cen. way. Haven't decided what kind of ship they will be on, a lot of possibilities.

Nice work. You beat me to posting a pic of these figures, as I'm just finishing off painting my VSF airboat crew using some the same castings.

What I love about the Westwind steamer crew is that they are so generic and will cross over between VSF/steampunk, pulp and late 19th/early20th century historical settings.

Nice group - work particularly well for the 1850's - 1870's.
Title: Re: VSF Pirate Crew close ups

Close ups of my VSF pirate crew. The fig w/the rifle is from West Wind. I think I did a good job with the worn dirty denim of his trousers. The Man/Machine is from Citadel. I added him as the SF in VSF. The fig also adds the Capt. Hook and "Peg Leg" Pete element to the pirates. The mini with the top hat is one of Dr. Meareux's assistants from West Wind. I added the cutlass for a pirate touch. The fig with the torch is from West Wind's Amazon Steamer crew and needed no help to look piratey! The fig in the striped shirt is also from the Steamer crew.

More crew close ups. The fig in the grey and black stripes and the red shirt are both from West Wind's Amazon steamer crew. The red shirt suffered a kitten related assault that smooshed his face, looks ok on a pirate. The Tor Johnson looking mini is another of Dr. Meraux's assistants, a useful pack from West Wind. The crouching rifleman is a Deadland's Rail Wars fig. He's been in the lead pile since the 90s.

Title: Re: VSF Pirate Captain & Crew

Captain for my VSF pirates. Manufacturer unknown. I bought the fig from a scratch & dent box a couple of decades ago. After finishing my pirates I wanted a Captain, someone with pretensions to gentility. I thought a GW 40K commissar would look great till I saw the price. So plan B, see what is in the lead pile. This mini sat around 3/4 finished forever, at 32mm it was too tall to blend in with the 25/28mm of the day. Thanks to scale creep it looks fine. Plan B is almost always the way to go.
