Title: 25mm Unsullied?
Post by: swiftnick on 13 April 2015, 02:37:20 PM
Guys I wonder if you could help. I am looking for 25mm Unsullied figures as in the GOT TV series. I thought there would be loads of generic Turk stylee figures with pointy helmets and round shields. But so far nothing quite does it. Any suggestions?

You could check out crusader miniatures Byzantine and El Cid ranges. Also maybe some of the packs from blacktrees 'warriors of islam' might do? Gripping beast must have something surely or kingmaker?

It is tricky to find one miniature that suitably fits the bill.  I got some foundry sumerians which I hope to use one day as unsullied:

You might like the foundry myceneans as well:

I have looked through a lot of ancients stuff, and you don't find that many unarmoured spearmen that have smooth faces or have decent helmets.  I guess it all depends on what you want them to look like.

If you are up for the task, you could work out some kitbashes from a few manufacturers.

I think I would look for harradrim and add pikes, if going unarmoured perhaps look amongst some ancients for head swaps or dervish in loin cloths. No really looked at gw LOTR figures for a long time so not sure. The unsullied though are basically a macedonian. Phalanx though?

Yeah, the ones I posted are based more on the book description which has them pretty much unarmoured and barechested. (At least the way I remember it...)

If you want a bit more armour like what is in the TV show, I would suggest something like the victrix greek mercenaries:

You might need to find some alternate heads to get the nice pointed helms you want, but if you paint them in a nice black paint scheme I think you will be pretty close.  Maybe swap out the shields for some smaller round ones if you really want to recreate the TV figures.

Actually some of the BTD fantasy Saracens have potential.

I have thought about Macedonian armoured phalangites. Either these from Warlord http://store.warlordgames.com/collections/macedonians/products/macedonians-phalangites

Or the ones from Wargames Foundry.

But their beads ruin it. Unsullied should not have beards.

Stand by off to have a look.
Ok had a quick look definately interesting. Thanks.
Sir Barnaby funnily enough I did consider that but seemed a shame to chop up one army tomake another.

The old QT models range of 25/28mm ancients had seperate heads, weapons and shields.
Head options included some fantasy looking types.

I think the range may have gone to Amazon Miniatures?

I wonder if those plastic numidians (wargames factory) could work.  Just swap out the heads for the helmet of your choice and the arms for suitably pike/spear/shield armed ones (perhaps from those Hoplites or the Warlord Phalangites above?). Might take some trimming up of sleeves and putty cleanup work to make it fit though.

If I make Unsullied in the future, I think I'll give them armor (though more realistic than the fanciful leather gear in the show).  I know GRRM describes them as unarmored, but I just can't rationalize the most expensive slave soldiers in the world not wearing armor...  :?

Oh man have I got the perfect miniatures for you. I just saw that episode for the first time the other day and I immediately turned to my girlfriend and said, "I have some of those dudes in miniature!" which is kind of a running joke between us. But I never say it unless it's true.  lol

Anyway, these Kev White sculpted Harlequin saracens should suit you:

The pics are small but I can vouch for the sculpts. 28-29mm to the eye.

The BTD Saracens are nice, its just too bad there are not many sculpt variants.

I'm not sure in what range 12 sculpts is counted as "not many."

I used Warlord Numidians with Perry Ansar heads (for the unshaven look) and green stuff...

Well, 3 actual spear-like weapon poses.  3 at-ease polearm poses, and then 6 sword armed figures (inc command).  That leaves you 3 figures with which to make a spear-armed unit without doing conversion work on the rest.  Might be fine for a unit of 10 if you include command, but if you want a 20-strong unit there will be a lot of repeats.
