Title: Sergeant in a 1914 Zug ... Personal weapon?

Something I'm struggling with in putting together my 1914 German Zug is the personal weapon carried by a sergeant.  

I would guess at a rifle but does anyone know for sure? My Google fu has failed me as the best I could come up with was an image of a re-enactor, rather than something from 1914.

Edit: I should have been clearer, this is for an infantry zug
