Title: (FIW) French and Indian War FORT
Post by: Painter Jim on April 19, 2015, 07:03:56 PM
The Fort is not a historical structure but a rendition of my research in the time period of existing structures and my own interpretation of building one, to try and get the feel and technique down before tackling the construction of a historical fort.
The piece of wood under the left side of the front gate is elevating the gate until the glue dries and as far as figures go, They are in my posesion, but  are not painted.

All of the roofs are removable for the placement of troops. some of the sections on below the troop walkways are horse stalls.

Next venture high on the list will be fort Wagner and to the best of my ability will be historical.

Thank you gentelmen for the kind words. I will add this to the subject, I personally do not even want to imagine the dedication it would take of those who do this for marketing purposes, I know what personaly went into creating this piece and can trully have a great deal of respect to those who do this for a living. I know that most will make a form for future casting in a type of resin material or of something, but the original is still to me, for sure a labor of love. I originally contimplated the posibility of offering it for sale but have for now put to much time into it and must have some throws of the dice with it.  :)

I have already sorted out the lead pile for the opropriate range and have been looking into purchasing some others to round out the bunch.
Now can any of you please give me your gaming expertese on what rule sets to use and of course, I would like to stay in the skirmish arena, I have never gamed this period.

 Thank you,
  Jim

That's a great fort. You said you put a lot into it. A lot of research included. Could this be used in other scenario's and still be historically accurate?

WOW that is damn lovely.

How did you do the wood colour? Did you just stain it?

For me the rules would have to be Muskets and Tomahawks and figures look no further than Galloping Major for the majority of them. Through in some Redoubt to mix it up a little.

I used two 4oz bottles of Didis magic ink mixed with a 12oz bottle of rubbing alchohol, staining the cut pieces before gluing, this eliminates the off color glue stains if brushed on afterwards.

I am still thinking of adding a dry brushed color effect.

Well color me impressed! 8) 8)

In regards to rules Muskets and Tomahawks is quite popular at the moment and This very ground is also a good system.

For Figures I personally prefer Redoubt and Galloping Major as they are large figures and quite characterful. However you are spoiled for choice and also have Northstar , Perry and Conquest all making very nice figures for the period. Probably some others I haven't mentioned as well.

The fort is very fine indeed. I contemplate doing the FIW and if I had my way I would do it 10mm and build some forts from scratch in wood, though I doubt I have what it takes to pull something like this off, even in 10mm, and because the 18mm Blue Moon range has associated buildings it has seemed more practical. It's nice to be reminded of the reaches of possibility in threads like this one, however! Again, wonderful project, good luck with the next!
