Title: A few good warriors - new figs 5-9-15
Post by: antimatter on 03 May 2015, 01:12:25 AM
Hi all,

Here are a few figures done at what I call "high-gaming level", using mostly light tones glazed and washed with dark complimentary inks, then highlighted with opaque paint on the edges. Some were commissions while others were done as tests of the technique with metallics.

FANTASTIC! Your brushwork & eye for colors is OUTSTANDING. Your creations exceed what I thought was possible with each miniature. BEAUTIFULLY WELL DONE!

Lovely  :-* :-* :-*
Any chance on some details about where the figures are from. I have never seen them before?

Not entirely sure on the last one but the others should be Reaper Miniatures. Great Painting on those!

The last figure is from Antimatter's own figure range for DeepWars.

Great job!  I have been working on my own skills using inks and glazes, but so far have not been able to match your results.  Any tips for the edge highlighting?

Wow, all beautiful figures, but I especially love that last one and the one that appears to be a cardinal.

Amazing brushwork there - I can almost feel the heat coming off the hellhound

Niccce... :) Agreed with ZeroTwentyThree: The red on the cardinal and the armour on the Deepwars mini look especially great. Not entirely sure about the white extremities on the dog(?), but the gradation and the vivid look are very effective, too.

I guess the only tip I have is to use the tip of the brush for edge highlighting. There are a couple of methods to do edges, but for many things I paint them with the brush tip as it gives the best flow and lets me add small highlight lines here and there. The other method for very sharp edges, like armor plates, is with the side of the brush, drawing up along with the brush at an angle to the object edge being painted. This method is not as precise as using the tip but it quicker and easier and less prone to errors. Drybrushing is another method of highlighting edges but I don't do that as much except for some cases of rough texture or thick scales.

My other trick, if you can call it that, is using a magnifier to help me see small details as my eyesight is going to crap with age. Honestly, I could not paint many details without one now.

Amazing work as always, though the Deep Wars mini is of course the best ;)

I am definitely curious as to where the cardinal is from - someone mentioned he might be a Reaper figure?

I like those blue tones, both on the flaming sword and on the tentacles. Really eye-catching figures!

a few more added. The wizard is so little compared to the rest but it was classic 25mm scale Partha. It's actually from the Bridge of Sorrows Diorama.
