Post by: Harry Faversham on 06 May 2015, 12:14:06 AM
In the box of Greek Peltasts, Javelin men and slingers... anybody know how many slingers and how many blokes chucking javelins?

Don't own a box myself, but here's what a quick web search revealed:
From an ad:

Each set contains 48 Hoplites or Peltasts/Javelin men and 8 archers or slingers
And from TMP (http://theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=341294):

There are 6 spare slinger arms in the Peltast set however which can easily be used on some of the Peltast figures which then gives you 14 slingers if you wish.

Just got the box in front of me.  The javelinmen all have both arms moulded on to avoid arm/body joins and have no right hand.   The javelin and hand are a single piece. It would be easy to sever the hands and slings from the spare arms and graft them on instead of the javelin hands

Cheers, that's great thanks. Another question that's been bugging me about the Victrix Hoplites are the spears, will you wind up with a phalanx of dismasted warriors after yer first battle, those plastic spears do look a tad fragile? I've toyed with the idea of replacing the spears with a set of brass ones, thing is the Vixtrix ones look so good... wot to do!?

:? ??? :?

There is no need for replacing. Plastic is really sturdy and unless you drop something heavy on them, they won't bend.

Have faith Harry.   Kadzik is right - those plastic spears are tough and have used my hoplites in several games and they have been fine.   A colleague has Warlord plastic Macedonian pikemen and the pikes, obviously much longer than the hoplites' spears, have also survived several battles intact.

It does pay to be careful when moving the phalanxes - slow and steady is better!

Look forward to hearing how the army progresses - am only half way through my hoplites, only another 5 phalanxes to go!!

You can buy the slingers and archers seperately.

As pointed out, it comes with 8 dedicated slingers but you can make up to 12. You can also mix and match with the unarmoured hoplites, as they are exactly the same pose. Which is unfortunate, as some of the poses are totally unsuitable for hoplites. But it's a minor quibble, I like their figures.

Not sure how far you have got with your army you are probably aware not all 28 mm are the same size, I find the first corps figures quite small but everybody has their own preferences. I've had no problems with the victrix spears. Not the same can be said for wargames factory which seem to break all the time.

Just realised I'm not very good at this organising/wargaming malarkey!  :'(
I bought three sets of Hoplites, mixed 'em all up, and now can't remember which boxed set comes with the most Corinthian helms in it... I like the look of them best, can anyone remind me?

Just had a look at mine, more Corinthian types in the Athenian than the Mercenary box.  I believe the Spartans are very distinctive (Pilos and long hair) and the Thebans have more Boeotian helmets.
