Hi everyone! Recently I've been wanting to jump into Epic: Armageddon. I briefly toyed with it in the past but it never quite caught on. Part of the problem was that I was the only one with an army (or two small ones, rather), and it's a nightmare to get my group to pick up something new.
With my brother's birthday coming up in a few months, I figured I'd kill two birds with one stone and build him an Epic Necron army, mirroring his primary choice in 40k. Although they didn't get an official release (as far as I know), there are a ton of great proxies out there now.
So enough preamble, on with the pics!
Last weekend, I finished up a phalanx of Warriors, and two of Immortals, which make up the core of the army. The figures are Edenites from Steel Crown Productions

Now, pictured behind those are the interesting bits! First up, a closer look at the Canoptek Spyder (left) and a WIP Triarch Stalker (right):

The Spyder is one of Forge World's Scarabs. I'm glad he's not likely to need more than a dozen because they are a nightmare to assemble.
The Triarch Stalker is based on the Arachnid Swarm from Wyrd Miniatures. I enlarged the slot at the back for the exhaust, and instead of that put in a piece of snake chain, using a tiny bit of superglue to hold the shape. Underneath I simply added copper wire for the guns, which I will sculpt a bit of further detail on. It's not a perfect representation, but it's close enough!
Finally, we have some Wraiths:

These were converted from the larger type of Scarabs found in the Tesseract Vault kit, and more snake chain.
I got the Wraiths undercoated this week, so that's what's coming up next, as well as some Monoliths. As far as purchasing goes, I have everything except some regular Scarabs, which I need for converting Destroyers.

Those are nice! :) Good job re-purposing models, Necrons sound like a lot of fun for Epic/ Space Marine.

Nice work. These look great. Thanks for sharing.

Nicely done epic proxies :)
-
Very nice! I also know it can be hard to get some of the unit types represented at this scale, so you get extra kudos for the creativity. ;)
-
Thanks all! It's been tough to find the right minis for the job, and there are still a few of the new codex units that don't have anything close enough for my tastes. Still, there's enough to get a good army, and all the old codex stuff is pretty much covered.

More epics! Hurrah!
Everything looks tasty (arachnids have changed a bit since I played Malifaux) and I appreciate the doggedness displayed in hauling people into the game. :D

Thanks! :D
Small update tonight while I wait for the Wraith bases to dry. I finished up the first of 8 Monoliths. Apologies for the drop in image quality, I lost my camera charger so I've had to fall back to my phone camera instead.

It's a "Deathbot War Pyramid" from Shapeways, mounted on a 40mm base so you get a sense of what size it is. A little pricey (especially after Shapeways glitching out and doubling my order, a glitch they have since fixed), but I'm willing to pay for a 100% match.

Nice looking army. Monolith looks sweet. :D
-
That Monolith looks perfect! :) You're making me want to finish my Titans. :D
-
I have some reservations about the hype around 3D printing, but even I have to admit it's the biznizz for microarmour. :) The monolith looks excellent.
Eek, you wouldn't happen to have any Epic sentinels lying around for a size comparison with that arachnid/triarch stalker? I have a feeling the latter might make interesting VSF-style sentinels for a Praetorian IG idea in the back of my head.
It looks a decent size already, though. What's the base size, 20mm?
-
Thanks folks!
Unfortunately I don't have any Sentinels to compare it to, but it is mounted on a 25mm base.
-
Aah, ta. I still might give 'em a try anyway. :)
-
Worth a shot, I'd say :)
Quick update tonight, I finally got the Wraiths done. Should be more than enough to fulfill the army's needs.

Gonna take some time to work on my own project(s) before I jump into painting the rest of the Monoliths. I figure I've earned it! :P

I'll say. :) That one pic represents more painting than I've done all year. Nicely done!
