Last night our group had a Great War game based loosely on Mons . Using 28mm figures and terrain from the collection of Chris Caves , with Warhammer rules. the Huns managed to cross the canal in three places and force the Tommies to start a long retreat.

I,ve posted this under the wrong heading , it should be Great War , my apologies gentlemen.
-
Looks like a fun game, love the slag heaps at the back of one of the pics, common in that area at that time I believe. :)
-
That is AWE-sum! I'd love to fight on that terrain, especially the bridges. :)
-
Well spotted Romack, that's what they were slag heaps. There were lovely little vignettes dotted around the table. Thanks for the comments ,Elizabeth , it was a pleasure to play , we had 2 British v 3 German players and Chris took the role of umpire and scenario generator .

I need some of those Great War British, the caissons and such. :)
Call me 'Anna', please. :) 'Elizabeth' is my middle name. XD
-
Sorry Anna as you can see the gremlins are plaguing me tonight.
-
No worries my friend. These are certainly lovely photos. I'd like to get more suitable terrain. :)
-
The last three pics ,folks.
-
So cool! I love the little vignettes, the signaler, and it looks like those RA Boys are about to get some close work! :D
-
Great photos.
Early WWI is very interesting.
I like all the little extra vignettes.
Love them.
-
Another vote for the slag heaps. Mons is fascinating for terrain modelling!
Is it just me, or am I getting vertigo looking at some of those pics? :)
-
Contrary to popular belief, I am not posting from Australia ( down under ,that is )
-
During the game, the umpire thought it amusing to fly an aeroplane over the field which proceeded to throw 2 hand grenades per turn whilst the Boche took pot shots at it.
-
Nice! Does the artillery piece have ANZAC crew?
-
I c,ant say Anna, these are Chris,s figures , I,ll ask him. I,m posting some of these pics from an I- Pad which for some inexplicable reason seems to send them upside down, although it does take exceedingly good photos even in a bad light, hope I,m not sending the blood rushing to your head viewing them. lol
-
Oh, I had thought it was "air observer" perspective. XD
They are excellent photos, it's really enjoyable to read this thread.

Great photos ----- the gun crew are early war in shirt sleeves by foundry ( not ANZACS )
Caissons by great war miniatures
Most of figures are 25 year old foundry castings !!!! ------ great uniform detail ( the perrys designed )
a few figures from musketeer ---- the signal group , old glory doctors , the German heavy mortar is old glory ------ french fire crew are 1870 dismounted french cavalry by foundry !!
Bridges --- one plastic railway one ( 20mm adapted ) ,canal bridge Sarrisa ----- slag heaps just pollystyrene and corrugated metal is coffee cup holders cut down !!
I will confess to being the builder and painter ----- glad you enjoyed

Comprehensive answer Chris, it was a great game, one to remember . Your collection deserves to be viewed on this forum where it can be appreciated.

With regards to the artillery crew, the Royal Artillery Regiment shirts were not a khaki colour but were somewhat similar to the ANZAC light horse shirts in Palestine.

Great looking game and a lovely collection of figures and terrain.
-
Chris - Welcome! :D You have a brilliantly painted collection, Sir. :)
Robert - thanx, that what I was thinking, I just watched Gallipoli Sunday night, and the crews looked like the Light Horse in the trenches there. :)
Oh, I'd love to get playing again. :)
