Title: Chaos in Cairo
Post by: BunkerMonkey on May 22, 2015, 02:20:41 AM
I'm going to be running a 4-player Chaos in Cairo game at Historicon this upcoming summer and thought I'd share my progress with you guys.

Needed to start from the ground up as I sold off a lot of my Pulp stuff a while back.

Let's start with the Archaeologists.

The Sponsor, Lord Hereward Wakefield and Intrepid leader, Rick Harrison:

The Doctor and Scholar:

The expedition's guards:

And I decided to replace the mini in the red shirt, above, with this guy:

And of course, the locally recruited work crew:

Had a few leftover minis that I probably won't be fielding but painted them up anyway because they are cool. I call these guys the Reluctant Adventurers:

I love these! :) Brilliant mini and you've given them excellent painting, they are full of character. :)

Thanks! The minis are all from Blue Moon and West Wind. I wrote the Chaos in Cairo, 2nd Edition game years ago and recently got the urge to play it again. I'll be posting more photos in a day or two. Stay tuned.

A very nice collection of miniatures and beautifully painted.

Finished a few of the Swords of Ra last night. I'll need to pick up a pack of mounted tribesmen to make up their Henchmen group so may be a while before I finish their warband but so far so good:

Chieftain & Dervish:

Warriors:

Figures are all West Wind except for the warrior with the Lewis Machine gun. He's from Brigade Games' Arab Revolt series.

Thanks all for the compliments. I'm currently working thru the Cultists and may have them up by the time the holiday weekend is over...assuming I stay away from the Mojitos... o_o

super job.  i really love those warriors and the sponsor too.  can't wait to see cultists.

"...replaced the one with the red shirt" - i thought that was expected since red shirts never last long.

Love these, both the minis and the paint job. Full of character.

A game like this is on my long list of things to do.

More awesomeness. :) I love the spectacles on the knife-wielder. :)
Title: Re: Chaos in Cairo
Post by: BunkerMonkey on May 26, 2015, 09:41:22 PM
Ha! Yeah, the guy in the spectacles is one of my favorites, too. I've been waiting patiently to get around to painting him.

I have about a half-dozen more figures to finish and then I'll need to place a few orders to round out all of the warbands. It's been fun and I'm really looking forward to playing the games.

Also, for those who might be looking to get the same minis, the Priest and leader are both West Wind. The bodyguard on the left with two pistols is West Wind and the other two bodyguards are Blue Moon.

Okie dokie...since the High Priest is gaining so many fans, here's a link to his section on the West Wind site. He's in the Gothic Horror: Mummy line and the pack also includes the mini I used for the cult leader as well as two pretty dangerous looking bodyguard types!

And finally, some weird, mutant Acolytes! More muscle for the Cultists!

Two weird guys with tentacles and modern firearms. What could possibly go wrong?

I think I shot the guy on the right last time we played 'Call of Cthulhu". :)

More excellent goodies, my friend. :)

Superb work. The two evil fellows look appropriately menacing. Your work is making me want to look at Chaos in Cairo again--I'd forgotten about it. Several years ago I remember it looking like a fun set of rules. Keep up the excellent work!

Please do! I wrote them several years ago and I'm re-booting my rules. I'm working on a new 'Chaos In' Game and then I'm going to release a set of Core Rules and supplements to go with them. I'd be happy to answer any questions and/or offer advice on your games.

Here's a link to the PDF download:

And if you prefer a hardcopy, you can get them from Old Glory & Old Glory UK.

Great news, Bunker! I'll keep an eye out for them. I always thought the goalsystem (wasn't that the name? It's been a few years) was a very clever way to model general pulp mayhem.

Oh, and one more question. Are the Chaos figures still available? For some reason I'm not finding them on the OG site.

They are under the Goal System games link on the left hand side of the page. Here's a direct shot to them:

Still waiting on some models I ordered so I won't have the warband done before at least next week but wanted to do a test on one of my mummies before painting the entire warband. I'm pretty happy with this test although I need to find a more contrasting shade for the flesh. I think the color I chose (a light grey-green) is too close to the bandage color.

He looks good, though I agree the fleshtone comes off as too monochrome. Perhaps a shade of brown? Start dark and then drybrush lighter?

As usual, my crap photography doesn't accurately depict it. I was looking at the actual mini after I posted and he's much darker and contrasted in the fles...er, lead.

A great collection of figures. I like your painting. It really captures that dusty, gritty desert feel.

Thank you! It's been a fun project. I paint minis for a living so I have to be choosy when it comes to my own projects. The nice bit is that this one is about 2/3rds finished and most of what I have left to paint are mummies that paint up relatively quickly, what with their limited palette.

Lovley figures and paint job. One question!! to All, what defines a pulp miniature?

That's a toughie!  Pulp has so many sub-genres and crossovers and so many fantasy elements injected into the stories that it make it difficult to define.

That said, if I had to go with the 'Traditional' Pulp look, I would say 1920s-1930s era clothing and equipment. Obviously, hairstyles and such would have to match as well.
