Title: [Kickstarter] Medieval (fantasy?) Zombicide: Black Plague
Post by: Braxandur on 22 May 2015, 04:36:35 PM
Apparently the modern day zombie market is saturated, so it's time for classical (fantasy zombies)

I'm pretty curious about this one.

Not a huge interest in Zombicide, but this one would get my attention more than the old one.  If the minis are reasonable and the KS goes nuts I may go in for some big medieval/fantasy zombie monsters.  How does Zombicide scale with other 28mm minis?

To be honest rather tired of zombies, but if the boards and other stuff looks interesting, i might be interested.

I'm also pretty stocked up on the zombie front, but the heroes, tiles and rules are nice. Zombicide itself can also easily be played with other models then zombies, possibly with team of players playing against each other and is even easily adjustable to a TTG instead of a board game, where the equipment cards can be a great assest if survivoers are searching for loot.

I can imagine using the tiles and specificaly equipment cards for skirmish fantasy games. If you give either the monsters more health or the heroes less, you can even play without needing enormous hordes of opponents. Seeing how the last zombicide kickstarters went, chances are that it will become a nice set for a reasonable price.

Well, if they redesign the zombies it can be pretty interesting. I don't have a copy of zombicide yet, so this might become the 1st one ( again, the models will make or break it for me )...

How does Zombicide scale with other 28mm minis?

An average human (not a fatty or an abomination) measures aprox 30-31mm to the eyes, 33-34mm to the top of the head, but we have used them with some other ranges 28mm minis, and they do mix pretty well once on the table.

Hope that helps.

I'm still waiting for my season 3 pledge to arrive, before deciding if I'll bite on this.

But if the other minis are as good as the fighting nun, resistance may be futile.

Best wishes.

Those floorplans look REALLY SIMILAR to the Cadwallon ones from Rackham... maybe the same artist, or are they utlizing some surplus product?

Even if I wanted to support another Zombicide Kickstarter (which I don't really- tired of all the early bird/ KS exclusive overladen Kickstarters) I wouldn't even know where to put it. I am nearly at a stage where I could build an igloo with the darn things. Nice minis nonetheless which I'd rather have cast in resin so they don't lose their detail. Surprised CMON has ever thought of doing that.

I'm also waiting for my S3 stuff to arrive and I'm getting tired of the KS scene, so unless they come up with really cool and original characters, I'll get this one once it hits the shelves.

I agree, and considering that Guilotine games als has old Rackham employees a distinct possibility. They made me think of the Arcadia Quest tiles as well (an older a CMoN kickstarter).

GG was formed by a couple of the guys from Rackham and another friend (if I remember correctly, I may have  the proportions incorrect).

I'll be in for this one. I've gotten a LOT of mileage out of my modern Zombicide stuff, so I'm excited to see where they go with this.

As for the idea of resin models as add ons.... It's a logistical nightmare. Most of the companies that have tried it have regretted it, so I expect they'll stay with the plastics.

I like it, as does the missus and doe most of my (board)gaming friends. The rules are pretty easy to learn and work pretty well. Important to note that especially with the expansions, it's a big sandbox game; use whichever options you like with a number of ways of tweaking the difficulty level. Still one of my friends doesn't lile it anymore, he played Zombicide a lot and ended up with a feeling of "It's always the same". I don't play it that often and it stays pretty fresh for me.

Btw, here is a new teaser from the facebook page:

Liking the wizard and fighter sculpts, not so much the nun. Those character cards look interesting, is that one card with all those stepped +1 bonuses, or several placed on each other? I am assuming one... have never played Zombicide.

We just started Descent a couple weeks ago, so this miniature board game thingy is fairly new to me. We used to play Advanced Heroquest back in the day, of course.

How different will this be from Zombicide? Everything I see is more the same, but with a different design. And although I like Zombicide I think it's a shame if they're basically rehashing the formula into a Fantasy setting. So I really hope they will add rules to make it stand out from Zombicide.
And I assume they will make a hero and zombie for Ash, Evil Ash, Henry the Red and Arthur...? Only seems fitting ;)

I'm a Zombicide completionist... :'(
I'm on the fence however. This looks really cool but I still don't have my S3 stuff nor shipping email. I know the West Coast Longshoreman Strike really slowed S3's delivery down but it seems odd to release another KS when the shipping for previous one isn't completed.
But knowing me, I'll fold and back it.
The plastic dashboards look really cool.

Kickstarter went live today, over 600% funded already, with a werewolf expansion funded.
I'l be honest, i'm tempted just because the hero miniatures are pretty as flip.

One interesting thing is that the wolf expansion has new tiles/mechanics for shooting from elevated position , meaning you can shoot over buildings and kill zombies that will take an extra turn to get to you. I think you could add these mechanics in and really start to play zombiecide as a proper skirmish game.

Some pretty cool add ons and stretch goals, but I can't belive they can avoid all those lawsuits...

They haven't been sued for any of the figures from the last three seasons.  They did recieve two C&D letters for figures in the season one campaign.  They changed them to look less like the source material (Uma Therman and Samuel L Jackson).  Everything else has come through despite looking very much like the inspiration material.

I don't know enough about the law to know how it works for them, but it does.  If I had to bet, I would expect these figures to come through as well.

Now if they started making some like say, blue armored marines from space, maybe they'd have problems.

I'm in as well, even just sold 2nd season 3 set to a friend (foregoing profit  lol), so I could jump onto this one. I have to say, seeing Thrudd as an add-on made my day.
Title: Re: [Kickstarter] Medieval (fantasy?) Zombicde: Black Plague
Post by: Duncan McDane on 10 June 2015, 02:00:13 PM
I will get the basic box, not sure about the Wulfsburg expansion yet. Need to see better pictures of the models first. The 20 US$ for the Thrudd add-on looks pretty cheap, even without considering it's IP ( probably won't come for free ), and although it's quite fun I don't need it ( bad excuse, I know  lol ).
Good to see the stretch goals so far, some really interesting characters.

Okay, so let's see if we can identify all of the kickstarter-exclusive sculpts!

First up:

This one isn't technically a character, but it's worth mentioning!

Zombie Snow White for the win!

Braham Stoker's Dracula in armor. I like this one a lot actually!

I didn't realize this, but apparently Gowan is also based on a movie character.

This time it's Christopher Lambert, from the original Highlander movie!

Also, Lady Grimm
(http://www.blackbirdmedia.org/images/ZombicideBlackPlague/13.png)

Is supposed to represent Brienne of Tarth, from the Game of Thrones
(http://www.blackbirdmedia.org/images/ZombicideBlackPlague/brienne.jpg)

Genevieve
(http://www.blackbirdmedia.org/images/ZombicideBlackPlague/14.png)

Represents Lady Galadriel, I guess she's supposed to be all armoured up? Certainly the face is a match, but that's it really.

Nice!

I was not able to identify Christopher Lambert (I should be ashamed!)  Liam Neeson (never seen the movie) and Chris Hemsworth.

I'm not sure about the artist special boxes being based on characters from movies/series.
Anyhow, I guess we'll get a few more to look at in the coming month. This might (again) end up pretty expensive  o_o

hm, judged from their bases - and assuming these are typical 2.5cm - the minis look bigger than 25-28mm. More closely to 30-32, I gather.
Screened the thread, but may have missed it. Any facts about that?

Pics

Only the exclusives are meant to be based on film / tv characters the non exclusives are going to be so that "Marc Simonetti" art you have linked to Brienne is really just con-incidence, though one can guess that it may well have been the inspiration for it, it's certainly not meant to be as blatant as the exclusives.

You see they can sort of get away with the exclusives as they will never be up for sale and the odds are n-one is going to try and sue for something that was only available for 30 days and was only offered as a freebie, but the rest will sold be so they need to avoid any IP issues with them.

I agree with you guys that the guest characters aren't likely to be exact reproductions of popular movie/tv characters... That being said, I think those two listed above are very conspicuous in their similarity to known characters. As such, I thought it was worth mentioning.

@Drachenklinge - Indeed they are taller and thinner. 30-32mm is a good estimation. They don't fit super well with the short and stubby 28mm heroics that we are familiar with. I'll see if I can post some scale comparisons between the modern Zombicide figs and other well-known figs and post it later.

Yes, make a friend pledge and let him add your Thrudd add-on to it  ;).
Or you can wait until it is on general sale and shell out a fiver more.

I must say I'm not too convinced about Wulfsburg yet, but the add-on character sets make me very happy. The Adrian Smith set rocks big time  8).

The artist packs are not KS exclusives and will be available in stores.
I like that they also made a general release Hero box and I hope they'll make more.

You can piggyback on my account if you can't find anyone else.

I live just over the border of germany in the Netherlands (Beugen), and regularly visit Germany for fuel, beer and meat. Either you can visit me play a game and get your minis, or I'll just have to post the package in Germany.

I felt this pain in the last Zombicide kickstarter. And in fact, we were promised our stuff in February 2015, but it didn't actually arrive for me until June. They blamed the shipping hold up on the west coast, but it was difficult.

Despite that, I got everything that was promised, so I'm in for this one still. I think I like the fantasy genre better than the modern genre to be honest.

Also, I'm tempted by the doors!

Thanks
n.

Do they really light your fire?  ;)

More interested in this game now that I have seen the new Sigmar figures. Psuedo-comic-medieval trumps psuedo-ridiculous-sci-fantasy any day of the week.

Charlize Theron as the evil queen Ravenna in Snow White and the Huntsman. I like this one, and now we have almost all of the Huntsman characters.

Apparently these two are Batman and the Joker...

Not sure I'm all that interested in these sort of mash ups really... But it's likely the easiest way to work such well-protected characters into a Zombicide game!

Medieval Batman?

The Medieval Joker?

I have searched but failed, so are there any scale comparison pics around? I fancy using the zombies against my medieval factions in Lion/Dragon/Zombie Rampant games, just wondering if the zombicide figures would scale reasonably well with my Perry plastic WotR figures? Bit of a long shot I know, nobody has these figures yet, but if anybody has exisiting (modern setting) zombicide figures and Perry plastics and could post a picture that would be splendid.
