Title: Some Finished Peninsular Battalions
Post by: gustav on 08 June 2015, 08:10:42 AM
After some considerable time on my painting table here are some shots of some finished battalions of mine.

First up my Portuguese - 3rd Olivenza Regiment

Ready for action they move forward by the old Windmill

Followed closely by their comrades the 15th Line - Olivenza

Meanwhile - Old Trousers has not been idle....

1/4th Legere move in column up the hill.

and deploy into line to assault the brave Portuguese.

3rd Olivenza and 4th Legere painted by myself and 15th Olivenza by Ray of Vorhut Painting.  All basing my own work.

Any comments welcome.

Lovely stuff Gustav, and I have been looking forward to these since your comment on an earlier post. I had to chuckle, as I have just finished moving some prepped figures to do the 3rd Olivenza only this evening, which I have been putting off due to their yellow piping and the fact that I don't like having to pile on three coats to get it to stand out.

You have done a great job with the yellow piping however, and attaining a contrast against the blue. The flags look as though they are from Maverick Models, but I don't recognise the figures. Are they Old Glory?

Well done. :-* :-*
As a portuguese i´m always happy to see painted figures of my own nation.
Keep it coming.

About the figures i´ll risk to say ex-victrix now sold by Brigade Games if i´m not mistaken.

Thanks for the kind words guys.
Yes the Portuguese are indeed from Brigade Games.

However I also have the 8th Cacadores from Front Rank on the table at 50% done and they are great figures but definitely more well built.

Very well done.

Always struck me as odd that Victrix went to the trouble - and expense - of making two separate boxes of Highland infantry with a maximum tabletop presence of just four battalions (and only two for most Peninsula battles), and then decided to make the infantry arm of an entire army (maximum tabletop presence up to 20 battalions) only in metal.  I wonder how many more Portuguese armies might have been inspired by a single box of plastics?
