Finally got my 3D printed Bedford QLD transport (I'll have three total) ... I'm really happy with the result - amazing what we can get printed for our hobbies these days!
Pictures up on my blog: http://jayswargamingmadness.blogspot.com/2015/06/28mm-bedford-qld-transport-arrived.html (http://jayswargamingmadness.blogspot.com/2015/06/28mm-bedford-qld-transport-arrived.html)

That's a very nice looking kit. Is that your own design?

Wow! Nice printout!

Thanks - I contracted a 3D modeler to do the model for me and upload it to Shapeways (I have no 3D modelling skills --- or at least I've never tried to do one yet). This was my first experiment with 3D modelling and Shapeways and I very happy with the result.

Isn't it at a pretty steep cost?

Yeah, it was $80 to get the model done - then they are $49.99 each ... so a bit steep ... but there are no other options to get them (nobody has 28mm kits for them) --- and I *really really* wanted them :D lol Now you can all get them, I don't mind paying a bit for the "greater good" --- I've purchased other kits from Shapeways that I didn't have to pony up the $$ to get modeled ... so I look at it as sorta paying it forward.

Looks good but my question with all of these things is how grainy is the surface finish? That's what has put me off most of these print jobs.

The surface is rough to the touch ... under a lamp and close inspection you can see it is rough ... you can pay $$ to get the smoother material for the printing but what I got will take paint easily and look great on the table. I'm going to be painting my up shortly (once the other two arrive) --- I figure once I get a base coat on there and all the rest of it it will smooth out to the touch as well ... but either way I'm really happy with the model.

I'm curious to see them painted up.

Me too :-) Seriously though, working on that over the next week or so and will post pictures of them once done.
