Heya
I recently picked up the Pulp Alley ruleset with the intention of using it for Rogue Trader-ish skirmish games, inspired by the brilliant stuff of Sho3box (Linky (https://sho3box.wordpress.com/)), but was distracted within a few seconds of opening up the booklet.
Orders where placed on copplestone castings, and rules and forums were read. I even got in my first game, a 3 player Smash and Grab - which was a bunch of fun, even though I got myself absolutely trashed (I had to essentialy teach myself the rules, while introducing the system to my two flatmates. At least, that's my excuse).
At any rate, I am very much excited with the rule set, and the idea of playing some proper "pulp" games, and have finally made a start towards the first of my leagues. Thus, allow me to introduce my leader, Komvsvoda Katya (name pending):

The varnish isn't entirely dry, and I might want to pick another colour for the cigar, but over all I am very happy with how the mini turned out. Was great fun to paint - Mark Copplestone is a favourite sculptor of mine, so being able to use his Back Of Beyond sculpts are another bonus of gaming Pulp Alley.
I wanted to get a bit of red in there to really hammer home the Soviet theme, as well as to provide some colour to a otherwise quite muted scheme. I think it works pretty well.
I'll get a better picture tomorrow, when I have painted another mini.
Thanks for reading!

She looks just great, Affun. Your brushwork suits her very well.

Great paint job, and nice to hear you got a game in.

Great work. It is inspiring.

great job! I like her expression

Thanks y'all :)
great job! I like her expression
One of the reasons I love Copplestone sculpts - They always have great faces. :)

I took another picture, which I think shows off the colours and highlights a bit better:

And here's a picture of the entire league (obviously a work in progress):
The idea is that the Komvsvoda is a sort of foreign affairs agent, hiring local muscle when required so that her acts cannot be traced directly to the Soviet state. Thus, we see her accompanied by a cadre of chineese mercenaries here:
The mysterious Yao - a wandering warrior, proficient with both his trusty shotgun and his blade
Daya - Aggresive and a little bit mad, wielding a dangerous looking blade.
Ming - A cool and collected marksman.
'Grub' - A dog trained for combat.
I'm not too sure about the sidekick (Yao). I don't think the miniature fits too well with the rest, even though the strawhat ties him together with Daya. I might swap him out for something else.
I'll propably be making statcards for them, as well as a small write-up, as I complete them, for use with Pulp Alley. So look out for that!
Thanks for reading and commenting.

Nice work! :)

Excellent, affun! THANKS for sharing the picks. I'm really looking forward to seeing these guys (and gals) in some Pulp Alley action. ;)

Great league.

Lovely painting!

Great stuff!
It looks like she's blowing a smoke ring in some annoying fascist's face.

Too many simultaneous projects, eh? ;)

Brilliant!

Thanks for all of the lovely comments! I very much appreciate them all! (:
Too many simultaneous projects, eh? ;)
I am not sure if I have too many projects, or am just enjoying painting whatever strikes my fancy lol These Pulp Leagues should be quite finishable though - Over halfway through the first one allready.

I managed to finish painting Ming on a short visit at my parents:

So thats 3 out of 5 models of the league done (Though I am cheating: The dog was painted a while ago lol )
Another very great Copplestone miniature. I am particularly happy with how the gunmetal turned out. Looking over the picture, I notice a couple of splotches I need to touch up slightly, though. ::)
I envisage Ming as a sharpshooter, and the brainy part of the league. Though his eyesight has suffered over the years of mercenary work, he is still profficient with his rifle.
In game terms, he is an Ally with the Marksman Trait, shooting on 3d6, and with 2d6 in Cunning. This leaves him vulnerable to attrition (having only a single d6 in dodging), but that fits perfectly with the theme of the character: I imagine him lurking around the outskirts of a skirmish, bidding his time, rather than fighting up front.
I like how Pulp Alleys league-building system really seems to encourage and enable you to add this sort of character to your fighters. :)
Cheers, and thanks for reading and commenting y'all!

Another great figure. I agree that the gunmetal looks really good; I also like how you did his glasses. Thank you for sharing!

I needed a break from painting fantasy stuff, and so, after an excellent game of 'Fantasy' Alley I felt motivated to make an effort towards getting my pulp leagues done. Thus, I managed to finish painting Daya, and thus my first league is almost done. Just one more guy to go. That should be manageable!

Daya will be mostly playing the role of melee distraction - gunning straight for whatever opportune target presents itself, and hopefully providing the rest of the league time to get the mission done. A bloody big blade in the face tends to get peoples attention.
I'll be back, hopefully in a bit less time than two months, with the final member for the league.
Thanks for reading!

Excellent! One of my favorite miniatures. :-*

She is quite nice. In fact, I find that almost all of Mark Copplestone's stuff is. Glad you like my effort too. Can't wait to get her in a game as well.

Ming and Daya are both on my painting table now and will be good inspiration!

Thats the first league done :)

I imagine these as a pair of agents using foreign mercenaries to accomplish high risk missions - the lives of mercenaries are cheap, and should anything go wrong, the incident would not be traceable back to them. That's the idea anyways: I'll expand upon it later, when I write up a blogpost on the league proper for my blog. For now I just wanted to show them together, as well as the latest mini finished for the league; Ivanov, Agent and Sidekick.

In game-terms, he'll be the one to do the physical objectives and the fighting. Another great Copplestone miniature, originall yfrom the Future Wars range, I thought he could be appropriated as an agent-type. You'll notice that he is the only member of the league with no red on him: That is because the miniature might pull double duty as a "generic" agent of sorts, or a gangster, for other leagues than this one.
With this league done, I just need someone to oppose them, and I can start gaming :)
Thanks for reading and commenting y'all!

Lovely stuff, and the Future Wars heavy fits in perfectly.

Finished up painting this mean-looking German, as a start to my next league - Some german strike-force, out to secure occult artifacts for the reich.
I am not entirely sure I am happy with the paint job though: I don't think the blue-grey works with the brown, and I am having a small crisis of basing: Rethinking whether I should go for 25mm bases instead of the 20mm's I've been using so far.
mmm. Desicions.

Ahnenerbe. :)

Ahnenerbe. :)
Oh yeah, that was a thing! Reality exceeds fiction, once again. I think I actually read about that a little while ago, but then completely forgot it.
I really enjoy grounding fantastical and pulp stuff in vague "realism" like that.

Excellent work! Can't wait to see them in action. ;)

Same here. I just need to find an excuse...
I will try and do an AAR when I get another League together.
This guy got finished today, as part of my "Buy less, Paint more" drive to make a 'dent' in the leadpile this month:
I've not really decided which role he'll play: Whether he is a villain or hero, leader or sidekick. It's a flexible miniature, and I am sure that he'll find a place as more stuff gets painted.

Another great Copplestone mini. And a great paint job! ;)

I agree with Dave! & I really like this guy... & his ossifer too...
Finished up painting this mean-looking German ~ I am not entirely sure I am happy with the paint job though: I don't think the blue-grey works with the brown.
It's one of those uncomfortable colour choices, which I think actually enhances the feller's menace.
I would suggest painting that ribbon in his buttonhole though, he earned it honourably after all.
& twould add a bright splash livening up the gloom.

Great War Iron Cross (EK II) is "C", 3rd from left, the rest are WWII.
Being Pulp, & tiny, as long as it looks great, does it really matter?
Or pick a German state's cockade colours & use them.

I am having a small crisis of basing: Rethinking whether I should go for 25mm bases instead of the 20mm's I've been using so far.
There is one clear choice:
ULTRA-INVISO™ BASES hand made by Wolf Girl, aka Mila Phipps, for the Phipps Cartel, aka Pulp Alley,
game, store, lifestyle, cult, or obsession, whichever you prefer.

http://store.pulpalley.com/product-p/1320.htm (http://store.pulpalley.com/product-p/1320.htm)
I'm also rolling mine own with the handy dandy rusty trusty punch stolen from the dormant leather shop,
or that nifty mech punch I purchased from Michael's.
Using mallet & metal does add a stress relief factor to making bases though, not to be dismissed lightly.
The very thin-ness of Mila's ULTRA-INVISO™ bases is what sold me, over other offerings out there.
To me they look & "feel" better with un-based vehicles, aircraft, buildings & scenery, whether next to or ON 'em.
For Song of Drums and Tomahawks I plan to ULTRA-INVISO™ base those Minquas & stalwart Swedes on the Delaware I paint to blend with forest, field, fort, rock, redoubt, ship, shore or snow.
Ditto an upcoming future foray: Space Pulp endeavours with Valkeeri & their Radon Zombee Askaris.
I quite like the way the thin discrete ULTRA-INVISO™ bases make my figures look standing on ANYTHING.
The thicker Litko ones I've got may see use for critters or plot points, or or weapons, or simple scenery pieces.
& it's actually much easier, & far less labour intensive or materiel hungry than traditional scenic-ed bases.
YMMV
