Title: Still need help: Top down view of destroyed towerblock/tall building?
Post by: robh on 27 June 2015, 12:37:47 AM
Does anyone have (or know where I can download) an image of a ruined skyscraper/towerblock type building.
I need the image taken as if looking down into the ruined shell of the building from directly above. There are loads of pictures of rubble piles and building shells taken from ground level but none that I can find from above.

I want to make up some tokens to replace 6mm scale buildings as they get destroyed.

Don't mind modern or 40k gothic sci fi look.

I would be surprised if there wasn't a battlemap/floorplan of such a structure around the web. Check the Cartographer's Guild, the Dundjinni forums, and RPGMapShare.

You'd have thought so wouldn't you.  :-[

There was one PostApoc set on RPGmapshare but they were deleted for not filling out the picture details correctly??

Only other ones I can see are an almost vertical view of a Cities of Death board on Pinterest. But as that is such an abysmally crap site it is impossible to see them properly or to find out who has posted them to ask about use.

Any other options guys?

Just so we're on the same page here:

The style should be "bombed-out multi-stored (formerly, at least!) building, with mostly just the outer walls still standing. Lots of rubble, overall a lot of grey and more grey.
The perspective should be orthogonal, so pure 2D, right?

Yes exactly that.

I have made a set of scenic boards for 1/600 ish Kaiju gaming that have removable 6"x6" building sections. When the damage points are sufficient the building section is removed leaving a 1/4" deep 6"x6" rebate in the tile.
I want to cover the visible inside of this rebate with an images of collapsed buildings so that when you look down onto the table you see something other than a black painted square. As if you were looking down into the building as it collapsed into its own underground sub levels.

The ideal solution would be to replicate each building section with a destroyed version for replacement purposes, but that is a whole lot of time and money I don't have to devote to this small project.

Just bumping this request to see if it catches anyone's eye.

I am trying to get this scenery set finished for a display game on 19th July, so if anyone has an idea on where I can look for images I would really appreciate it.

Google Image has not been forthcoming with answers to this one.

Possibly get someone who has some proper rubble/ruins terrain and just have them snap a bunch of decent pictures for you?  That would be easier and faster...with possibly better results?  I don't have any or I'd snap some pics for ya.

How about aerial photos of Germany 1945?

Or for more modern, maybe bits of Beirut perhaps?

Twin towers must have lots of imagery?

I could make some screenshots from Fallout 3 using the GECK to fly over a section of ruined Washington and looking down, but it would be a perpective camera.

Edit: turns out the GECK has an orthographic view.

Dramascape have a set of different modern ruins including ruined skyscrapers.
You can see it here: http://www.wargamevault.com/product/126757/Modern-Ruins-BUNDLE?filters=0_40211_40011_0
