Title: Ancient plastics & Mythological metals
Post by: M.O.T.N on 05 July 2015, 01:23:02 PM
I'm just starting out with ancients after being in the hobby for 20 years now!

My first project is going to be 28mm Macedonians with a few mythology twists. Not being much a gamer, more a sculptor and painter, I'm not basing with any rule set in mind at the moment... but I do like Lord of the Rings, nice and simple.

The plastic Phalangites are from Warlord Games, and the plastic horses I'm using are also from Warlord Games (English Civil War range).
Faun archers are my own sculpts, I got 20 cast up in metal... but only 2 poses, so will need to convert some for variety. The non historically accurate Companion Cavalry riders are also my own sculpts, cast up with the faun's.

Below are the test mini's I've put together and started painting. Undercoat is army painter spray, leather brown.

I do hope at some point in the next year to make a lot more mythology mini's, in scale with historical plastics, and put them on sale. This thread is likely to be the testing ground for a lot of that!

Very nice sculpts, much more my cup of tea than the sci-fantasy stuff on your blog (still well sculpted)

Look forward to seeing where you take this.

I took a couple of shots of the fauns pre-painting. Right now these are just tests/proof of concepts and I'll see how they paint up. I have lots of the dollies left so can sculpt more in future and do a small production run to offer some for sale.

Going for a wild and tribal look to them!

I really really like what I see  :o :o

As a great fan of all greek mythology things I am always looking for fitting models.
When you start selling I am in for at least a few of the fauns  ;D

cheers Thomas

These seem to have turned out all right. Hope to paint them up soon!

There's a few tweaks I'll do when making some retail versions, including more varied poses and general better polish and finish.
