Hi there folks, joined a little while ago and thought I'd better say something :) My painting and gaming tends to be super diverse and sporadic, so this thread may wax and wane as my interests move to new genres, but for now at least I'm gearing up for the arrival of Frostgrave, which looks like being all kinds of awesome fun! So in preparation, I've painted a few old Reaper Bones I had lying around. No real plan for them, may or may not use them, but they were a fun distraction for a few evenings. Bones plastic is still the most awful material to paint on, but these turned out halfway decent I think. I've also since these photos were taken gotten around to basing them with snow bases befitting the setting.

I picked up that same wizard from orcs nest the other day for frostgrave, yours is looking great! :)
-
They do look very nice. I agree painting bones sucks. I backed to first kickstarter and ended up giving them all to my son to play with. Still love reaper though
-
Very Cool (the girl is one of my Favs from Reaper)
-
Great painting, and good choice of colors too. The patina on the fountain is excellent.
I'm actually painting that same wizard as a fire Elementalist for Frostgrave.
-
As keen player of Pathfinder RPG, I'm glad this wizard is so popular. He is an iconic image of wizard in the Pathfinder RPG.
-
A great start to your warband. I look forward to what you have coming next.
-
I really.like.the colour scheme you are using

Thanks so much for all the kind words people :) Not a whole lot of progress, although I have a couple more wizards lined up ready to paint in anticipation of my book arriving. In the meantime, here's a barbarian. There aren't enough ethnically diverse barbarians in the world. No need for them all to be hulking vikings.
Painting is super sloppy, still a lot I need to go back and finish :?
And here's a link to my blog, if anyone wants to see non-frostgrave models. Just started some AoS chaos :)

Just a quick update. Not much to show, been painting other projects, and slowly assembling some of my lovely plastic frostgrave troops. Great kit. Hoping to be able to have a game next weekend, scrambling to get together enough terrain in time. Here is some pics of what I currently have finished. Pretty rough and ready paintjobs. The snow looks better in real life, very icy, like melting slush. I want the city to look like it's thawing after a long freeze, rather than just being heavily coated with fresh snow.
Sorry for the dodgy photos, got a snow table top but it isn't set up yet.

Terrific slush effect!
-
Thanks Joe! Much appreciated.
Anyway, my thread was all the way back on page 9 ::) So I figured I better resurrect it since I've been doing a ton of frostgrave hobbying lately. I'm bad at remembering to take photos, so here's just a single workbench pic of two small pieces of terrain I've finished - there are quite a few larger buildings in progress. I'm super happy with them, they've turned out very well and cost almost nothing to make. I've gone heavy on the snow effect because, to me, the fluff of Frostgrave, barebones as it is, is one of the best things. With so many people (understandably) playing temperategrave, I wanted to really capture the feel of a deep frozen city.

Lots more to come, including warband soldiers and more terrain :)
PS, in the background you can see the start of my first barrow complex - it'll count as a mausoleum for that scenario. I eventually want to make two or three, but they're taking a lot of work.
-
What a great idea using a cork tile to make stones. I have been debating how best to do that for ages, thanks.
-
That snow is fantastic. The most real looking snow I've seen. What did you use to make it ?
-
Great looking stonework and terrain pieces, Magos. I'm very much looking forward to seeing the one in the background completed, it looks very interesting!
-
Thanks guys :)
@Mahwell skel - yep, I was trying to figure out how to make ruins, the remembered I had a bunch of cork tiles I picked up for like $5. So far I have used two tiles to make enough terrain for a 2x2 board. It paints up beautifully and because it has some flex, is very hardy.
@polkovnik - thanks! I'm really happy with it. I don't have an exact recipe but basically it uses a mix of water effects (the one part stuff), pva/craft glue and snow flock, mixed into a paste and smeared around. I've started adding a drop or two of white paint too, which helps the snow pop a bit more and not go too translucent/slushy.
@Awesomeshotdude - cheers mate :) The barrow is inspired by a piece of skyrim concept art I found.
-
Some skeletons I painted last night. Nothing fancy, they are super rushed. Just drybrushing and washes mostly, but they only took an hour or two, so they'll do.

:-* I like this thread!
Watching with interest. :D

Hi. I like this greenish color on the shields, is it GW Nihilakh Oxide or something else?
-
Lovely skellies especially the eyes.thanks for sharing
-
Thanks guys, glad you like them.
@armyofmites - yep, nihlahk oxide. I was skeptical at first because verdigris is pretty easy to paint normally, but it makes it easy to just splash around for tabletop standard models.
Anyway, I finally had a real bolt of inspiration for a warband to play. Will have some proper fluff coming, but for now, this infantry is the first member of the a warband made up of... the last remnant of old Felstad. Led by a chronomancer ;)
Not my finest painting, can't get the ornate armour to look good. Tried metallic, nope, so now nmm... which I suck at. But oh well, he'll do.

:o Very nice, looks lovely with that head and scabbard! Curious about your fluff, sounds intriguing...
Excellent looking skellies too, by the way!
-
Super cool! Where is that head from?
-
Look pretty cool to me
-
Great stuff! Really like the verdigris on the skeletons!
-
Thanks guys :)
@Joe5mc - the head (and shoulder plate) is from the Mantic revenant set - I've always really liked the style of armour they wear, and since I'm using Mantic models for most of my undead Felstadians, it makes sense to keep the armour consistent for my chronomancer.
Anyway, little more progress, this time a witch. Quite pleased with how she turned out, I kept the colours fairly simple, using the many layers of clothing to create a sort of reverse fade effect.
Side note - most of the women I paint end up with jade lips and eye shadow. It's both because I like the colour and, from an aesthetics view, it is highly constrasting to the pale skin tones, which helps define the face clearly. But mostly I just like the colour.

Looking good Magos - I particularly like the Skeletons...
-
Great additions. Thanks for sharing
-
She looks great, who makes her?
-
Thanks, the witch is from Reaper, their Pathfinder range.

Ok, one last post for the day. Finished off some wolves to add to my growing number of encounter monsters. Also took a scenic pic of the skellies in some ruins. Excuse the crappy phone pics.

Second that!
Where the wolves from?
Werewolves from? :)
Some excellent minis and terrain in this thread, I think I'll give your snow recipe a go.
-
Wolves look great Magos!
-
Thanks guys, much appreciated :) The wolves are from Red Box. Not sure if they're still in production.
-
Awesome stuff.
Need a group shot!
-
Nice work. I really like those wolves, where did you get those?
