Updated Post 03.09.15
I have good news and bad news.
The bad news: The spell cards are no longer available because Osprey purchased the design from me.
The good news: Osprey plans on releasing a printed deck of spell cards for Frostgrave.
----------------------------
I am splitting off this topic in order to keep things focused and not clutter up other threads with discussion of design and edits.
My original post
-------------------------
So this idea of spell cards got my mind racing so I thought I would come up with a design. Not to steal Daeothar's thunder. If anyone is interested I could make a whole deck. Not sure if peeps would like the icons for wizard type.

By the way I have finished half the spell cards. Hopefully they will be done by the beginning of next week or sooner.
-
Good work - these look very nice
-
You are on fire Audrey. :)
They look great.
-
They look great thanks for sharing
-
Those are fantastic!
-
Audrey, want to run a game of Frostgrave when we do the next gaming day? I have plenty of figures to create a warband (maybe a couple?).
-
like the blue ones
-
Excellent work!!! The card back looks fantastic and the fronts look very cool indeed. I like the first card front because the blue on both sides kinda ties the card together, but I also like the second card front as it seems more thematic, in that with the symbols in the black ink, it looks more like a spell scrawled onto parchment.
-
I like them. The first design with the blue is a little more visually interesting, but both are good. If there was space on the card, I'd consider including all ten schools of magic's symbols and showing the relevant penalty to cast, or grouping the symbols into aligned and non-aligned, something like that. Just a small suggestion that may or may not have merit :)
-
What is it with great minds here on LAF eh? lol
I'm working on exactly that for my version of the cards, but need to receive my Nickstarter book first to be completely certain about all relevant penalties, values etc.
I am already designing icons for my cards though, as I want some more visual stuff to complement the large pieces of text... ;)
-
Those are nice.
-
Nicely done cards :)
Only thing is that the casting value can change during campaign-play and the casting value is also different depending what kind of wizard you field ;)

I'd like to. I bet we could pull together enough miniatures for 4 warbands with Jerry & Kim's stuff.

I am working on an editable pdf so you can make the casting value whatever you want.

Sounds good :)

Ok based on feedback, most like the simplified version. Also since most will be printing these at home I switched to a white border. Unfortunately I do not have a copy of the rulebook yet and it will probably be another 3 weeks before I do. So I am working in the dark, so to speak. V1.0 of the cards are done. I used my own icons for the different factions. I don't know if there are ones in the rule book or not. I may come up with a revised version of the spell cards after I get my hands on the rulebook. I am also working on an editable pdf so you can change the casting value yourself. But that is not done yet. On to the links...

These look great. As a thought for the casting level changing, when printed out if put in card selves then with a pen you can always overwrite the value with the correct one for that character. Just an idea.
-
Audrey, those are really nice!
-
Excellent work Audrey!!! Thanks for the time and effort you've put into these and for then sharing your work with the community, it's greatly appreciated :)
Perhaps in your editable PDF version, you could make it so the casting number can be left blank if players wish. I'll likely print these out and laminate them in pouches, so I can write whatever casting number is current at the time of each game with a marker that can be wiped clean with metho or terps.
-
These look great- very nice work
-
Fantastic work, thank you!
-
Superb, great work and Thank you :-*
-
Very nice work.
Interesting to see the icons for the different casters you used.
Some are almost exactly the same as the ones I came up with:
Let's see if people can name them all, so I know they're intuitive enough... ;)
-
Left to right...
Vinomancer, Pyromancer, Astronomancer, Indyjonesomancer, Dentistomancer, Faxomancer, Keyholmancer, Pacmancer, Palm Reader, Dinner Lady.
One, or maybe more, of those will not be appearing in an official Frostgrave supplement...
-
Vinomancer? A lost opportunity if you ask me..
PROPER PISHED Difficulty: 8
If not in combat all figures must make a full move and initiate combat with ANY figure. Those already in combat move 1" away from their opponent and declare 'I love you man' with tears in their eyes. Any figure near an animal companion must approach the companion and hug it and stroke it.
-
Cherries
Pacmancer / 10 / Line of Sight
Target a treasure token in line of sight. If the spell is successful, that treasure token is replaced by magic cherries. When rolling for treasure post-game, the wizard whose warband captured the magic cherries may choose to roll on the Magic Produce table instead of on the regular treasure table.
Power Pellets
Pacmancer / 10 / Self Only
Only a wizard may cast this spell. If successful, the wizard can temporarily banish any Undead creature. To do so, the wizard must make contact with the undead model, at which point it is sent to the centre of the board. The effects of the spell wears off at the end of the wizard's next activation. This spell may only be cast a maximum of 4 times per game.
-
Such wit; you must really be the light of every party...
-
lol lol lol lol
Now I want a pacmancer model 8)
Audrey, very nice, those cards - thanks. 8) 8)

Such wit; you must really be the light of every party...
Apologies if I gave offence – I was just having a little fun off the back of your open challenge to test our intuition – I took that in jest, and responded in kind – no harm intended.
-
My bad for snapping; I've been in a sleep deprived zombie-like state today as my 2-year old has been ill and I've not slept the entire night.
I'm starting to appreciate the effectiveness of those CIA interrogation techniques a lot better now...
So apologies right back... ;)
-
All good, and I hope you (and your kid) get some sleep soon! o_o
-
Thank you Audrey, those are Great!
-
Thanks for those Audrey, they're going to be very useful!
-
Ok below is the link to the editable version. The numbers don't look as nice but you can make the casting value whatever you want, even delete them for blank cards. The numbers provided are the default values. It is best to view the pdf in adobe acrobat. If you open the file in another program the casting number may look odd. Enjoy!
-Audrey
-
Thank you, Audrey, absolutely useful, much appreciate your efforts :)
-
This is one of the reasons gamers can be pretty awesome. Amazing work. Super Super Cudos.
If one was interested in printing these out to thick card stock, where do you think a good online place would be to go?

I prefer Printer's Studio (http://www.printerstudio.com). They are good quality and I have had a number of decks printed from them. The cards are designs to fit their poker sized cards (http://www.printerstudio.com/personalized/custom-card-decks-promotional-items.html). The only issue is you have to break down each card as a separate image to upload. So you would have 80 spell card images and 1 Frostgrave back for all the cards. You could also take the pdf to a local Fedex Kinkos or office store and they can print them on 110lb card stock and if you put them in card sleeves they will be fine.
-
Thanks again for your generosity in sharing these, Audrey, very much appreciated!!!
Thanks also for the link to Printer's Studio, I'll definitely be getting a set of these printed out and then laminate them here at home in laminate pockets.
-

What is the best way to do this? I tried copying the images of the spell cards from the PDF and pasting them into Word, but the pasted image is just the blank background. The card back worked ok, but not the card fronts.
-
These are fantastic! I noticed that there are typos in the Enchant Weapon, Enchant Armour, and Embed Enchantment spell titles though.
-
Thanks Audrey, they're great. 8) 8) 8)

Thank you for catching that. The cards have been fixed and the links are updated with new files.

Frosty!
Many thanks!
-
Very nicely done. Cheers
-
Stunning job, just what was needed, many thanks.
-
Would it be possible for the mods to make this thread a 'sticky' at the top of the page?
Regards
Jim

Excellent cards!
-
those cards are amazing!
many thanks.
-
Thanks for the job, really nice cards !
-
Great stuff! Thank you very much!
-
Very good job !
And thank you very much !!
-
if you can separate each card then you can easily make a deck using printerstudio.com
(note they have the option for creating a "shop" if you want to open this to other players)
-
I have broken down the cards into separate images. I will see about setting a deck up on Printer's Studio for people.
-
These are very nicely done. Much thanks for your work. I owe you a beer.
-
I printed these out (in greyscale) on sticker paper, and stuck them on some playing cards I found for $1/deck at Walmart. Sleeved them in some Magic card sleeves, and now I have a lovely deck of spell cards. Thanks!
-
You beauty.
The one thing we said repeatedly in our game last night is 'we got to get some spell cards made up'
We wouldn't have come up with anything as nice as these.
Thanks you so much.
All the best,
Harry

SO AWESOME!!! Thanks Audrey, you're a champ. I've been nutting away trying to work out how to do this myself with little success. Again, your efforts and generosity in sharing with the community are very much appreciated :)
-
there is no way to "Like" your post about printer studio.
:-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
hopefully that will suffice :)

That would be great! You are a legend.
Copyright issues though? (I mean by using an external printing company)
-
I looked into setting up a store making it easier to get printed cards but they wouldn't allow you to not mark the price up. So instead I will post the link to the files, but you will have to do the rest.
-

Shouldn't be an issue since these are not being sold and are for personal use only. Granted if Osprey wanted me to take the files down I would.

Spell Cards (with casting numbers) broken down into individual files - roughly 110mb. (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/31033538/SpellCards.zip) This is for those that want to have cards printed through Printers Studio or similar place.
Excellent stuff, Audrey. Once again, I really appreciate your efforts and your generosity in sharing your work. Once I get home from work I'll download these and get straight on to Printer's Studio!
-
I went through the process on Printer's Studio with your generously provided card images, Audrey, and it was a pretty straight forward and simple process. I've ordered 2 x packs of cards in 100% plastic, I'll show some pics in this thread once they completed their journey and arrived here from across the Pacific!

G'day Audrey,
My card order from Printer's Studio rocked up on my door step today and I am extremely happy with the results! You did an excellent job on these and Printer's Studio also did a top notch job printing them.
Thanks again for being so generous in sharing your work, it's greatly appreciated :)

They look real nice. Thanks for sharing what the end result looks like. I really need to order my set of cards :).

Very nice! Can you tell us which specific card choice you selected to get these? I assume it was the poker cards?
Thx

Yes, the design was made for the 3.5" x 2.5" poker cards.

Here are the links to the files and printers studio. Unfortunately you have to upload the files and create your own order as I was not able to set up a store without a mark up.

Does anyone know a European place that provides a similar servie? I'd be interested in a set of those cars. Looks very handy.
As well as some other custom cards I've been thinking about.

Someone made some cards for Dreadball via PrinterStudio, and no-one came up with an alternative in the UK/Europe than was cheaper than getting them shipped from PrinterStudio in the US. That was for the UK, so Denamrk might have different alternatives ,and that's not to say that there isn't a euro-based solution that was missed.
-
Ordered two packs from Printer's using Audreys cards, one for me and one for my opponent. Fairly straightforward process, although took a bit of time for all the cards to upload. Thanks again Audrey!
-
anybody that "creates" a deck of these cards can click the "sell these designs" button and open this up for people who don't have the time to upload these card (like me)

Yeah the issue is that gets into making money off of Osprey's property. I tried to "sell these designs" but Printers Studio won't let you do a 0% markup. The minimum is 10%. While it would be nice to make $1.50 per deck of cards sold for my time, I didn't feel it was right to do so.
-
...ok...I was under the impression you don't make ANY money on these.
-
working on mine now...what did you do with the "extra" card slots?
I added 2 blank spell cards and 6 blank "treasure" cards (with a different back)

I've ordered sets for me and my friends from printerstudio.de

Just got my set... Thank you Audrey, these are awesome!

I've ordered sets for me and my friends from printerstudio.de
And they just arrived! Really happy with the sets (thanks Audrey, great designs) and the printerstudio.de guys were great. Eight of us got copies and with shipping it didn't work out that expensive at all. I will definitely use them again, fantastic customer service . I had to muddle through the website using Google translate and my almost non existent German but it all worked out ok in the end.
-
I'm glad everyone is liking the cards. :D
-
Another thank you to Audrey. :D
Cards arrived today, really nice job by printers studio.
Strangely though, ordered from the American site, paid in dollars, delivered from Germany. :?
What do I care though, the cards are great.

Yeah, I think they just send the job to the closest "studio". I'm in Australia and ordered on the US website, but my cards were sent from China...
-
...and another "Thank You" to Audrey for the work on these cards.
I just ordered a couple of packs from the US Printerstudio.com site for delivery to Spain. I added enough blanks to make up to 90 cards. On linen the decks worked out at $16 or so each and 2 together qualified for their current free shipping offer.
Plus I had to create an account on the site and received a 10% discount voucher for my next order.
Wonder how many decks of these printerstudio have done so far?
-
I haven't seen every post on this thread but I wanted to ask if you've done or you're considering doing treasure cards? Or a set of bestiary cards that could be randomly drawn?
I'm definitely picking a set of these up. Thank you very much for sharing your hard work with us.
-
Received my two sets last Friday and they look ACE! Thanks for all the work Audrey, much appreciated!!
-

I am working on a terrain project at the moment. So a treasure or bestiary deck are not in the immediate future.
-Audrey
-
After reading the rules there really isn't a need for either. The chart is sufficient.
-
Ordered my cards today. Be sure to select the linen cards if you're buying 2 packs. This puts you over the 30.00 threshold and you qualify for free shipping. Use redeem coupon code SHIP30

I have good news and bad news.
The bad news: The spell cards are no longer available because Osprey purchased the design from me.
The good news: Osprey plans on releasing a printed deck of spell cards for Frostgrave.
I don't have any further information like a release date or any of that.
-Audrey

That is brilliant news Audrey. :D
-
Actually, both of those sound like good news to me...
Well done that man.
-
Got my cards. They are fantastic. Congrats on selling your design.
