Title: Dragontooth Dragon Riders
Post by: PhilB on 20 July 2015, 12:32:48 PM
Here are two of the four Dragontooth Dragon Riders I picked up at GenCon X (IIRC), paint from the early 80s. Now I just need to rebase them, paint up the remaining two, and I'll have a squadron!

Even a master like the late great Tom Loback faced a learning curve. Take for instance the first minis he cast, the dwarves. Looked kind like a cross between a play-doh Michelin Man and the stay-puf marshmallow man, just scaled down a bit. His elves were much superior, and by the time he started releasing individual characters, they were simply brilliant.

The Frazetta-style giants were great, even if lacking in the sort of details we expect today. I really regret having given my frazetta-style polar bear chariot away to a woman I lusted after. Liz, I bet you just tossed it out, didn't you?

Most Dragontooth is now listed with images on the Lost Minis WIKI;

I run a Yahoo Group for DT as well;

Not sure who designed the Dwarves as Tom had 3 different designers working for him/ with him that I am aware of...himself, Steve Tofano (those Dragon Riders in the top pic), Mike Gilbert and Michael Katok. There were some interesting' sculpts over the years but Tom had a way with working wax that still enthralls me today. Don't know if you're aware but he passed away recently.

Sorry, not only would I not part with any old Dragontooth stuff, but I don't believe I have any of those items. On hols right now, but when I get back home, will upload pics of some Dragontooth saurian halbardiers I did up 2 weeks ago, and some pikemen who are next on the block.

I also have two triceratops howda carriers, but no howdas or crew. Will have to scratchbuild them, and draft some saurian bowmen and pikemen as the crews.

I have some (bad ipad) pics of ranidean spearmen mostly done, with a poison dart tree frog effect going for them, and will try to get better pics submitted once I base them.
