Currently working on getting together the necessary scenery items...buildings will be either scratchbuilt or from Charlie Foxtrot models, S & A scenic river sections, I hope to commission The Terrain Tutor to help with hills and marsh areas.
-
Working on the first line of sight bases, the model is an East European shed from Charlie Foxtrot Models with applied coffee stirer timber details...
-
Gradually making inroads into the buildings I need, still a long way to go!
-
Got the beginning of a nice little village
-
I saw some buildings like yesterday as I'm out in Kazakhstan at the moment. A little more modern perhaps, with tin sheets rather than the plank or tiled roof, but some were obviously quite old. You've got the silvery grey colour spot on.
-
I wish I could say I had but the buildings are more brown than grey, its a trick of the light but I will be doing some more in keeping with an aged appearence.
-
An interesting observation in scenery building when looking at grand scale wargaming, is the fudging of scales.....for BBB a 4inch round with a structure on It may represent an outlying village or town outskirts where as a 6 inch square with a structure on it represents main town built up areas, accordingly if needing to model a specific building such as the monastery means the building will be abnormaly small in foot print. Keep in mind one infantry base represents 1000 men......
I hope my plans work visually we will have to see.
-
Working on a bell tower as part of the central town. For information base size is 6 by 6 inches , I have includec a couple of 28mm figs just to give you guys an idea of scale. Will be adding roof slates to tranceps.
-
Thatched dwelling in progress using a Warbases FIW log cabin as the basis
-
Good work there.
I hear what you're saying about scale and size. In my own games I have used 4 15mm buildings arranged in a walled field (from Last Valley) as a town. As an abstract it works, and matches the scale of the game. As the buildings are physically taller than the mini's it's an ok deception.
My tip would be to try and keep your buildings to the table edge as scenery rather than centre stage as terrain if possible. Other than that there's little you can do.
However what ever you do I'm looking forward to seeing everything on the table and some shots of a game.
-
The first will be getting all the terrain together and then seeing how it looks on the table.
-
Nearing the end of construction of the thatched dwelling, only the , plinth to paint, finish main door then base
-
Map of the battlefield for BBB , this scenario was designed for a 6ft by 6ft table but can be transferred onto the standard 4 by 4 format for smaller scales
-
Work has begun on the monastery. Ostrolenka monastery was built in the 17thC for the Bernadine order. This model is an abstract and will convey an impression of a monastic building, The Polish 4th regiment of foot defended the building.
-
The forces for BBB
-
If you are interested I may scan you full TOE of the battle, but in Polish :>
-
Thats very kind of you but I already have those, they were translated from Polish for me.
-
Another building for the Town of Ostrolenka finished, basing will be done once the other structures are made and painted so there is a uniform theme.
-
The monastery is coming along now has the final part of the roof fitted, just tiling, some detailing and then painting
-
Good work there. Am following with interest!
-
I would be cautious with shtetel thing. Shtetl was name of a town wth large Jewish population which Ostrołeka lacked in 1830.
(It had sinagogue though - which burned in 1831)
-
Shipka your buildings are always awe inspiring.
-
In 1826 the population of Ostrolenka was 2562 approx of which 480 were Jewish. 362 houses of which 15 were masonary which according to records included the monastery. I havent looked at modelling the masonary structures except the monastery as I cannot find a decent picture with which to base a model.

Roofing completed, shingles in place.

ty during the insurrection and The Battle on Ostrołęka's commons
Although the citizens of Ostrołęka were glade to take part in November's rebellion, they worried that their city, as in every previous war, would be destroyed. However they didn't expect, that the main part of the event would take place on Ostrołęka's commons. According to the planes, polish army was supposed to attack Russian corps of tsar's guard, which camped at the territory from Augustów to Ostrołęka. On 18th May Ostrołęka was conquered by gen. Dembiński. But (pasowałoby podać stopień) Skrzynecki didn't make a use of temporary domination and he couldn't make his mind to attack Russians situated near Łomża. As a result of what Łomża was destroyed. When on 26th May a cannonade was heard, Skrzynecki couldn't believe that Dybicz(russian general) had already reached the suburbs of the city. He gave an order to defence. The best possible place to defend was Bernadine monastery, where the fourth infan-try regiment fortified, which was the main defending force of the city at that time. Unfortunately Russians had brought cannons, and thanks to their power they forced Polish soldiers to sur-render. Dybicz took over Ostrołęka and the battle moved to the right side of the river Narew. Polish with greatest efforts tried to defend the bridge. Skrzynecki wanted to stop Russian forces from crossing the river. Lieutenant-Colonel Józef Bem and his fourth battery were charged with the defence of the bridge. Bem attacked the enemy and managed to hold him back. The battle was a beginning of insurrec-tion's defeat. About 6000 polish soldiers died in it including many Kurp's. Bem, for his bravery, was nominated a commander-in-chief of artillery and he was honoured with a Virtue Militari Cross. That battle was the greatest and the bloodiest battle of November's Insurrection

Painting of the monastery has been altered to provide a more weathered look, the antique cream used
On the plaster facing the decorative window surrounds softens the walls.
-
Trying to work out best way to make some of the paintwork to look aged
-
To give you all an idea how some of the buildings work together
-
A lovely period print of the battle
-
Two of Ostroleka's dwellings, lower status
-
Those are nice buildings, are they laser etched and did you do them yourself?
-
They are laser etched, and are from Charlie Foxtrot Models to which I added some of their card roofing. The cabins are a variant of the Hunters Lodge but with a different roofline. The size of them were based on my specs to work within the scenario and as such the buildings fit onto a 105mm square base.

Now I have castings coming through work has begun painting, this will be a slow process as I rely on external painters and secondly as I recently lost my job due to ill health finances are tight.
Anyway The figure painting commences with the start of Polish General Maciej Rybinski's Division, I will post pics as soon as I have some....
For the General I am planning to use a foot figure!
-
Polish 12th Regiment of volunteers
-
Work has begun on the elavated embankment/chaussee it is 2ft long 8"" Wide 2" in height, unfortunately I could not find any dimensions in any of the descriptions of the battle .
-
The raised embankment is taking shape
-
Indeed - your constant output is commendable.
-
A start of a layout, going to have to relook at map..lol
