Title: Attacks from Push, etc
Post by: BlackSmoke on 26 July 2015, 04:01:24 PM
Quick question on spells like Push where it's not a Shooting attack. I take it that's it's treated like a melee attack, with the defender rolling against it with his fight? And then the distance is calculated against his armour vs attack value?

I assume you mean where it is a shooting attack, and I believe that the answer should be yes, but ask in the rules thread to get the definitive answer.

Fwiw though, the target almost certainly does roll fight against it as its a shooting attack. Same goes for Elemental Bolt, Poison Dart etc. For the same reason I don't see why you wouldn't subtract armour (and it does have a +10!).

I think this is where the confusion lies; most other spells say the wizard can make a shooting attack, but Push says the target 'suffers a +10 attack'. Does that mean he already counts as being hit?

No, it means you roll and add +10 and then compare to the opponent's roll + combat modifier, just like any other attack.

It's not called a shooting attack because it doesn't use the shooting attack modifiers table but it does use the basic attack rolling structure.

If you win then minus the opponent's armour score from your total attack roll, the result is the number of inches pushed.
