Like the topic says...
Which are you most drawn to and why?
Just curious to see if there is a preference or that selection is fairly balanced.
-
Illusionist, because i like the tickyness factor.
But I don't think there is a school that I wouldn't be prepared to play.
-
I went Witch as I didn't want a blaster and Animal Companion, Fog and Poison Dart all seemed solid spells.
-
Thaumaturge.
I always want to play with evil doers, ruthless sociopath, who would sacrifice anyone to achieve goal.... and always end with caring, healing, friendly dudes :P
-
First instinct; Illusionist as well.
I think many of that caster's tricks just appeal to me. But then again; I prefer playing thievy characters in our RPG games as well.
Hmm; now I'm wondering what that actually says about me... lol
I'm also drawn to the Chronomancer though. I sort of like the whole concept and crumble would be so much fun to use on a high perched marksman... :D
And then the summoner; throwing a ticked off genie downrange is also too cool to pass up on.
In fact, I would not be adverse to playing any of the caster types, as each has their own draws.
-
Enchanter. Who wouldn't want to magically bring big stompy constructs to the party?
-
I like the idea of the Chronomancer, particularly because I have this guy and he would fit the bill nicely:

I know he is an orc, but he is still awesome!
-
Chronomancer. I play Magic: the gathering, and time magic is my favourite there.
My second favourite is enchanter, but this time because of Skyrim - I can imagine the enchanter as leading an expedition from the College of Winterhold to explore ancient Dwemer ruins.
-
Sigilist. Because words can hurt people too.
But all the lores have their appeal. The obvious solution is just to make ten warbands.
-
I just wanna play! In any game, I usually take what everyone else is not taking. I am very flexible. A shame I never got any RPGs to play, because I really love RPGs, but none of my friends really do. I want to end up with every model in the Northstar range as far as wizards go anyways, so I can play anyone and they can all borrow my models.
First have to find a Dutch retailer that sells them though...
-
Thaumaturge, because I love D&D clerics and "holy" magic.
-
Haven't played yet, but the visual of a Necromancer stalking around a frozen destroyed city is pretty tempting.
-
Summoner at the moment, but I want to try a Sigilist soon.

Same for me!
-
Elementalist because I always like direct approach. In MTG my colour is Red, my favourite PC game is Diablo and in W40K I have played Khorne Berzerkers. Yeah, I play barbarians in RPGs.
-
Summoner at the moment.
Nothing puts the :o :'( on your opponent like a major demon.
-
Thaumaturge; because Dresden is my favourite Wizard ;)
But I'm currently working on a Necromancer and his posse, and have always loved playing summoners in D&D (PF).
-
Necromancer first (I just like to rise the undead Horde/ Ok one Zombie :)
Sigilist second -as i just love the Fighty Nun models.
-
Summoner, as I like the fact a clumsy wizzard could by mistake summon a ďemon somewhere, which starts chasing him. :D
-
Illusionist, because screwing with people is fun.
When I started playing multi-player Warcraft 2 my first thought was "what happens if you polymorph a dragon over water"
When I read the spell descriptions in Frostgrave, I assumed Transpose was meant t otoss wandering monsters into your opponent!
-
I'm still pondering what to go for, but Summoner seems like an interesting way to go ...if only because that means that I get to make Daedra models for my Morrowind themed warband. :D
-
any school as long as it's old-school!
-
Elementalist! I'm almost always some sort of fire wizard when I get a chance to videogame, definitely one for the "stand back and be offensive" approach
-
As an undead fan my first choice is the necromancer. Second is elementalist or enchanter.

You will be among the first to be smited beneath the glorious radiance of Thaumaturgy.
-
Chronomancer, mainly inspired by the artwork.
I think my favourite miniature is the Necromancer, but I didn't want a necromancer, so although the miniature of the Chronomancer doesn't quite (IMO) live up to the artwork that was the one I went for. And it's a very nice model and I'm very pleased with her. I also think that it's the nicest apprentice with the set, which influenced my choice a bit.
That said, I'll probably be back to see Nick for a Necromancer in a couple of weeks anyway...
-
I'm not surprised that the Necromancer and Elementalist are coming out top.
But no love for the Sigilist?
I also think the Enchanter has a lot of potential.

I would have expected the Necromancer, Elementalist, and Thaumaturge to be the top three.
-
Started by fleshing out a Necromancer, then got an idea for an 'alternative' Thaumaturge warband, which I am going to do first.
Am probably going to do most schools along the way, though.
-
It would be interesting to see a Sigilist in a long campaign.
Start with Absorb Knowledge, Create Grimoire and Write Scroll. Start significantly behind the other wizards on the board but see if your out of game warband acceleration from increased gold and XP gains can catch you up, or even overtake the others in the long run.
-
Well, A dead city pretty much calls for a necromancer if you ask me...

It sounds good in theory, but I'm not sure that it would work in practice since the experience gained from a wizard simply nuking people provides far greater experience potential.
-
Along with great potencial to get himself killed. ;)
-
Necromancer, i blame Heinrich Kemmler...
But my second shoice would be Sigilist, followed by soothsayer theese soly based on the Miniatures.
😀
-
Thaumaturge. I like the whole Cleric/Holy Magic thing as well. :D
-
I'm torn. All of my preconceptions are based on the miniatures I can rustle up that speak to me of a particular archetype. I'd like to create a band of churchmen lead by a hermit thaumaturge or a savage witch leading barbaric tribals.
-
So I hope this isn't thread Necromancy......spechily since my wizard is a Soothsayer who only occasionally dabbles but that's beside the point ;)
I choose soothsayer for the following reasons:
1: Mind control, I get to take one of your guys and if I roll well enough you have vurtually no chance to take him back.
2: Reveal secret: I want to use an Inn for my base so no tower to reduce diff to reasonable levels and an extra treasure about 50% of the time is sweet.
3: Decent selection of allied schools, I love me some crumble for utility, Heal is a no brainer and Raise Zombie just works too well with reveal not to take.
4: It seems more people are drawn to flashier schools like Elementalist and Necromancer, I like to be different.
5: I like to be tactical and what's more tactical than knowing what your opponent is gonna do before he does it. (At least story wise anyway)
6: Just cause >:D
Again forgiveness for the necromancy but I think this topic still has some life in it....how about calling it thread healing at least it's an aligned school as well :-)
-
Elementalist - he has the best shooting attack (who doesn't like a lightning bolt)
plus his aligned schools - Chronomancer, enchanter and summoner all work really well together
-
Summoner, for summoning demons!!! Also firing imps making zombies ( summon a demon into a corpse), constructs ( bind a demon in a golom), and also familer( pet demon)
-
Elementalist! I'm almost always some sort of fire wizard when I get a chance to videogame, definitely one for the "stand back and be offensive" approach
Agreed. I love playing D&D wizards with burning hands and fireballs. If you get too close i might even pull out a shocking grasp
-
Elemental for me, mainly because of the aligned schools - I find those almost more important than the school itself.
-
As far as background is concernced the enchanter speaks to me the most, though pure spell-wise there are other schools that I like as well.
I liked the enchanter in the cave story from the Tales of Frostgrave booklet. It reminded me of the Dresden files, initially Harry Dresden could also be considered an enchanter, though the elementalist side probably took over.
But my choice is more colored by Michael Scott Rohan's Winter of the world series. Those books were some of the first fantasy books I ever read and will always be amongst my favorite books.
-
I've only played as a necromancer, witch and summoner so far, but have enjoyed all three. I dislike the ekementalist as elemental bolt is so dangerous. I think I could grow to like the summoner most due to his access to really good aligned schools.
-
I voted witch in the poll, but after getting the rules I just couldn't make my mind up. Seeing as there are 10 schools I listed them alphabetically and rolled a d10.
Came up with Summoner :D
-
Chronomancer. Great spells and good aligned schools. Plus what's cooler than a time traveling wizard.
-
To me, the official Summoner figures represent the ideal of what Frostgrave should (IMO) be about, namely a sense of romanticised adventure in a world of wizards and magical creatures without all too much doom and gloom. I only wish the official daemon figures would look a bit less satanic, but I can work around that.

I've been tinkering with some Angel figures for my summoned demons (who says I need to call on the powers of darkness) I have a solid minor/Guardian Angel and a good idea to do up a lantern floating glow for my imps just need an impressive Greater Arch-Angel to complete my set.
-
Will start with a Necormancer and then explore all schools. Witch will be next as a Shaman for an ork warband. So much to do.....
-
I have only one warband at present, but I went with a Witch because of the diverse and entertaining array of spell effects, and the very useful Brew Potion ability, which is both a warband buff-up and a money maker. (And because I already had a bear mini for an animal companion.)
lol

Just on concept alone, I'm drawn to Elementalist. Maybe I've watched a little too much Avatar: The Last Airbender, but there is just something primal and cool about bending Earth, Fire, Air, and Water to your will.
If they made Avatar: The Last Airbender Miniatures I would be using them :-*
As far as Frostgrave is concerned, I was initially turned off by their spell selection. The casting numbers are high and the spell selection is mostly damage based. Shoot that guy over there. Shoot a few guys over there. Burn everyone near you. Make that sword flaming so it does more damage, etc...
In the current campaign I'm playing in I switched to an Elementalist, after my Illusionist died horribly, and I'm living the Avatar dream. Leaping about, creating walls of stone, pushing stuff around with air blasts, and scorching things with fire on occasion.
-
Necro. for me. I'm making a warband of undead. I already had a bunch of undead figs for D&D.
-
I've played 5 games as a Summoner (first choice), 3 as a Chronomancer, and 2 as an Enchanter and have enjoyed all of them, I can't decide which I prefer.
-
Necromancer. I blame Diablo 2.
-
My rule book arrives today.. Late to the party, I know. Anyway, I am currently torn between the Chronomancer and Thaumaturage.
Been scouring the whole 17 pages of the forums for two days. Like the holy cleric part of the Thaumaturage. And saw someone wanting to have their wizard summon Angels. Super rad idea! Totally stealing that.
Chronomancer appeals to me for speeding up the game, storing an action, crumble floors... :)
