Title: Lion Rampant Mongols
Post by: Dewbakuk on 30 July 2015, 12:31:00 PM
So, finally getting around to doing something with the Mongol boxes on my shelf! Lion Rampant seems like a good use until I eventually do the original use... One day.

To start with I'm going to make the force listed in the back of the book, so a heavy can unit (with bows) - easy with the new resin figures, 2 units of mounted sergeants (with bows obviously) and a unit of expert Yeoman.

Does anyone have a thought as to how to distinguish the yeomen from the sergeants? Easy answer is to put a standard in the sergeant units. Also some of the yeomen can be put into a position where they are shooting backwards... But are there any better ideas?

Well the number of guys in a unit should also help. But you could do it with the paint. Have the sergeants in a bit more flashy and/or uniform gear. And make the yeomen look a bit more rag-tag.

Yes, all cavalry in Lion Rampant are 6 man units.

Yes, all cavalry in Lion Rampant are 6 man units.

That's what I thought cheers. At my in-laws currently, so unable to look it up and double check.

Ahh yes of course. My bad, sorry for the confusion.

But my other advice on distinguishing them when you cop our them in is still sound. I think...

With my Russians almost finished I am planning to do the same thing. To distinguish the Sergeants I am going to use armoured torsos from the Gripping Beast Heavy Arabs. There is a guy on Ebay who sells single sprues of Heavy Arabs ( £5.50 a sprue). As each sprue comes with 6 armoured torsos, but only three rider's legs and horses, I am going to get 2 sprues which I will mix with the spare 6 mounted Mongols I have. I should have enough spare Mongol heads to complete them. That should give me 12 Mounted Sergeants......... in theory......

Ooh, that's a good idea. I was going to get a Heavy Arabs box anyway at a later date for my Arabian stuff, didn't know about the extra torso's. Looks like I need to pick a box up when I get home.
