I wanted to try a new skin tone (don't like it, I'll stick to my standard Caucasian mix) so thought I'd have a go at something simple I could paint without having to put any real thought into it. Once I started I decided to have another attempt at a cell shaded style that I saw Andrew Rae use brilliantly on a couple of Hasslefree figures a few years ago. Failed again but it looks ok for a quikie. It was a nice change to just belt out a figure in 90 minutes rather than taking the usual 4 hours I spend on commissions.

I might post up some Pulp figures I did some years ago on this thread if I get the chance to take some decent pics of them.

Lovely stuff.
-
Very cool! Fine work, indeed.
-
Well-shaded and well-coloured, what's not to like? :D
-
looks great. what's "cell shaded style"?
-
Love him Roy. Dead simple, but very effective.
-
Nice! :-*

duff - superb! love the albino hit man - really well done. any tips on doing the pin stripes? mine always come out either too fat or too far apart but yours are fantastic.
-
Chalkstripes, surely? ;)
Blinking brilliant Roy, as ever. Love the quiff. And the scar and blind eye are a triumph.
-
Don't worry about them being too fat Pete, in fact that is the way to go, make them fat then do base coat stripes in between to narrow them to the correct width. And be prepared to redo areas when you go wrong of course. :D
And absolutely correct about the chalk stripe Richard. In fact I did a black wash over the lot to get a flannel look to the cloth.
-
Those pin stripes are out of this world. Excellent job Duff.
-
The albino looks fantastic! Great work!
-
Fabulous painting. The Albino pitman is a great idea, superbly excecuted.

Wonderful work! Richard

Great work, but you need to edit those symbols out ASAP Duff, as they're illegal in Germany where this site is hosted! :o
-
Didn't even occur to me. Hopefully it's ok now.
-
Bonkers, but brilliant. Where is the Nazi in tu-tu miniature from?
-
It was a Tom Meier sculpt for the wonderful bonkersness that was Golgo Island.
Think you can get it from Hasslefree now.
Great work as always, Duffers 8)

Lovely work 8)
-
what's a 'rotchet'?
-
Sorry, that should be ratchet, and it refers to revolver handguns in Jamaica during the 60s and 70s. It's a line from the Slickers track Johnny Too Bad, featured on the Harder They Come soundtrack.
Edit: original spelling corrected now.

More great additions.

My basic recipe (I have a couple for variation) is VGC Tan as a base, mixed up to VMC Salmon Rose, with VGC Pale Flesh as a highlight if I think it is needed. Sometimes I use the Salmon Rose with a flesh wash applied as a base, going up to Pale Flesh to get a paler look.
