Hi all, been a while since my last build-(scratch built medieval inn)
I wanted to do something a little bit different and gamer Mac gave me the inspiration to do my own 28mm surfaced sub.
It is made from foam, cardboard, plastruct tubes, a toothpick, pins, grommets, granny stitch and the top off of a coffee creamer bottle...and the
dive planes on the bow are parts of a pair of safety glasses, oh and 1/4 inch chicken wire for the railing around the AA gun.
This is it before I weather the old girl...I thought it was representative of either U.S. or German WW1/WW2 subs, but still
generic enough to be any country's, or "non country's" sub.

The tall pieces like the two periscopes and radio mast, along with the guns are removable for transport.
Let me know what ya think...

Fantastic looking submarine.

Hell of a build! Looks great!
Maybe a little weathering? Some streaks from the bilges, etc?

Fantastic build!

Have to agree with Fram - a little weathering would take this to the next level!
-
Thank you all VERY much for the support!!... :)
It was a fun build and I plan on a few more with a few slight changes in mind.
As far as weathering, I really wanted to but was on the fence as I wanted to get some "fresh raw" pics up first...but i think i have been pushed over that fence and the weathering will commence!! Bwahhawhawhawhaw!! >:D
-
Bloody brilliant!
Great use of imagination, sir.

Superb work. May you have many hours of enjoyment out of it!

Very nice, who will crew the beast?
-
Wonderful. You see so many great scratch builds here. Nice to see it in the 'junk' state before paint....makes it almost achievable!
-
A nice build, indeed! :-*

OK, so here she is in all of her used and abused rusty glory....let me know what ya think.

WOW! Brilliant stuff! :o
-
Thank you so much guys!!
Muzfish4,
I used this product...I thinit down with a little water after thoroughly mixing it as it is THICK with real metal shavings...
I thin it down so i can have more control when I paint it onto the surface to be rusted...once it dries, paint the activator over it...
after about 20-30 minutes, it will begin to turn into "rust"...you can let it go for a few hours, or seal it with a clear matte coat when
it turns to your desired effect...

You can find this stuff at Michael's, Joanne's or probably most any good craft store...they have many different colorings as well...you can also google it.
Cheers,
Carl

An absolute fantastic scratch build. :o
-
Very nice build! How did you do the welding joints?
There is, however, a suggestion the technology-geek inside me just has to make: The telescopic bits of the periscope and other equipment could do with a polish, otherwise they will foul the seals.
P.S.: don't go near my tramp and its valuable shipment of arks of the covenant.
-
I need to build one of these...thank you for the inspiration
-
Oh yes, that is nice! :)
-
That's a beauty.
-
Thank you all again!!...this is the stuff that keeps me going!!!!!
PortCharmers,
I made the weld seams with "puff paint"...that weird 3d crafting paint for clothes....it is quite fun to use as welds, or even rivets...filler!
Eric the Shed!...that is monsterous for me....have at it and have fun!!
This is all gamer mac and fram's fault tho! lol
-
Crazy Good! :-*

Thanks for the advice, Carl.
I'll keep an eye out for this stuff next time I find myself in a craft store.
-
That is very, very cool.
-
That's fantastic.
There's nothing like the satisfaction of doing a scratch build that comes out looking so nice.
-
