A slight exaggeration in that I've had two or three practice runs on some Reaper Bones minis, but these Frostgrave adventurers are the first miniatures I've painted since I was in my teens. I'm fairly pleased with them, although I think I've gone overboard on the layering, and eyes can defeat the best of us ... (I couldn't figure out how to paste the picture in, so I've added it as an attachment).

Looking good there.
I think most people struggle with eyes (me included). i recently found this tutorial http://www.reapermini.com/TheCraft/12 (ftp://http://www.reapermini.com/TheCraft/12) which I am trying to follow.

They're looking great, even when you would have been painting regularly!
And considering you've not seriously painted for two decades, I'd say they're looking absolutely ace...

You haven't lost the touch!

and welcome back to the hobby.

Thanks everyone! I'm slowing putting a couple of warbands together so I can introduce my daughter to the game. The figures were from Midlam Miniatures:

Looks like a good return to the hobby to me - and I don't think you've overdone the layering at all. :)

Lovely work. :D
Doesn't look like you've lost your touch from here.
