Title: Ordered my Perry kits...
Post by: Charlie_ on 19 August 2015, 05:24:32 PM
Just thought I'd share this with you....

This last week I've ordered a vast quantity of miniatures, paints and modelling supplies as I'm getting back into the hobby and diving head first into a WOTR / late medieval project.

In an earlier thread of mine (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=81469.0) someone recommended not getting things from Wayland Games. Minibits.net was mentioned, and I found they had a good price on Vallejo paints, so I got some paints and other bits and pieces from them. Very good experience - I got a phone call later the same day from them as one of the paints was out of stock, and we decided to switch it for another (Hobby Colour black rather than Game Colour black!). And it arrived quickly, so a big thumbs up for them in terms of customer service.

I did order the Perry kits from Wayland, as they had a good low price on them, along with a few other bits and pieces.

Placed the order last week, their website has listed my order status as 'payment received' since then. I called them up today to ask for more detail... Apparently it won't be dispatched til the end of next week!!!!

Now I could just be patient, but I am itching to get started. I was gonna place an order at Renedra for lots of bases, so as impatient as I am, I ordered a couple of the Perry kits from them as well this afternoon. I was gonna double up on some of the boxes anyway....  ;)

Just got an email from Renadra today, the same day I ordered. It's been dispatched!!!!

So yeah, should have listened to the advice I got and avoided Wayland Games. By the time the 6 boxes of late medievals they owe me arrive, I will likely already have some finished fully painted minis to show you from Renadra!

Just thought I'd share that with you. : )

If they have the stuff in stock, they can be quite rapid. I have used elementgames in the UK and found them to be excellent - as in stuff arriving within 24 hours - maybe for your next order. Looking forward to your efforts.

Regarding wayland games I waited 3 + weeks once, contacted them, and they was waiting for one miniature to arrive ,(which they was showing as in stock)
So I told them to cancel the rather large order and refund my card, which they did within 3 days, and I vowed never use them again.
I've had great service from firestorm games, northstar games and even gw.

Well, that is disappointing  :(
Nothing worse, when you've just decided to take the plunge into a new thing and you're raring to get stuck in, to come across a supplier who is slow and unresponsive  :-[
Shame on them. I simply cannot see how a retailer in any sector can justify a week's delay in processing an order; and then say it's going to be another week before they even send it out. What on earth kind of business are they running? That's just poor service.
Barmy.

For future reference, the outfit I've found to be the absolute best (and I've bought quite a lot of stuff from them in the last year) is Arcane Scenery and Models: https://arcanesceneryandmodels.co.uk/

Not only do they provide free shipping within the UK, but they are - in my experience anyway - consistently super-fast. You get your order within a day or two. Sometimes even the next day. And yes, they do stock the whole Perry plastic range.

So - probably too late for you now - but for future reference, I can't recommend them highly enough.

Anyway, glad to welcome another addict to the world of Perry medieval plastics. Looking forward to seeing what you do with them  :)

Admittedly, I have only used them once, but Caliver books do the Perry box sets for a bit less than the usual price.

Mind you I order most of my perry stuff from the Perrys own website, which is usually pretty quick to deliver.

Bookmarked, thanks!

Well I'll have the Bows & Bills and the Light Cavalry boxes from Renadra soon, so that will be enough to get my teeth into. I purposely went for the Light Cavalry one as it looks like one of the best for kit-bashing. If I'd got started with just one foot knight set I might have got bored with full plate armour and poleaxes very quickly!

Annoyingly, my Wayland Games order also includes a few hobby supplies, the most important being a black primer spray. That means to start any painting before it arrives, I'm either gonna have to prime by hand (which for some reason I just can't stand), or alternatively step into my local Games Workshop store...

Well (my final bit of advice, then I'll shut up), if you've got a Halfords shop anywhere nearby (and they're pretty much everywhere), then I strongly recommend their matt black spray paint. £7.49 for a socking great 500ml can. And it's an excellent product too. Flat matt, jet black, smooth texture, high opacity.
A better product and at a much cheaper price than most 'hobby brand' spray primers. (GW spray paints are £11 for a smaller can, and the paint's not as good).

A bit more expensive, but better still - and what I use almost exclusively these days - is Halfords camo brown spray paint.
Easier on the eye than black, and a great finish to paint on. Ultra matt. Especially good for horses, but I use it for everything.

Oh, this is just too good.

My order from Renedra arrived this morning. That's less than 24 hours after ordering.

So, next-day delivery from Renedra with free postage, or waiting 2 weeks from Wayland Games....

Hmmmm.... who wins? :)

Ok time to get stuck in, next time you hear from me I'll have some toy soldiers to show you...

Aye. Sorry for my tardiness, but I'd echo Fred in that other topic: Wayland are notoriously slow and a bit deceptive regarding their stock levels. There are whole long topics on other forums, complaining about their practises; including their official responses in those topics.

If we're listing shops, I quite like Triple Helix Wargames. 20% off Perry Kits, though they don't seem to stock the one HYW kit. (At least they don't label it as 'available to order'.  >:D )
