Title: ECW Raids and Skirmishes
Post by: charla51 on August 19, 2015, 06:23:09 PM
Does anyone know of a ready source of scenarios (acutal actions or generic) for this level of game. By 'level', I mean a few companies of infantry (or commanded musketeers) and/or dragoons, and a few troops of horse. These kind of actions seem to have taken place far more often than the grand battles -which we've played to death, so to speak.

Many thanks in advance.

Several of the actions featured in the series of ECW scenario books published by Partizan are small-scale, worth looking at.

WSS magazine issue 72 had a scenario set during the siege of Plymouth called Pike & Sheep about a small skirmish over livestock.

Was that the "ECW notes & queries" booklets?
Some of those go for silly prices on ebay.

But I think that Partisan did a couple of small books just with scenarios.

Now you tell me!  I throw a few of those out before I moved house  :(

Yes, that's the series I was thinking of. ECWN&Q also did (does) a series of articles on 'terribly obscure battles of the ECW' which may provide some inspiration but I suspect it would be a very easy matter to translate some of the standard scenarios from the likes of SAGA, Dux Brit, Lion Rampant etc to a later setting.

I think there are variant rules of LR for both Elizabethan and ECW games to be found online if you're looking for a set of rules for tabletop games.

Thanks for the comments, everyone.  I have been adapting some of the Cry Havoc board game scenarios for ECW use; e.g. revolting peasants = clubmen, etc.
