Title: Sondermann's Strange Aeons Blog
Post by: sondermann on August 22, 2015, 10:10:57 AM
Hello everyone, I'm sondermann and I dabble in painting.

I recently came across Strange Aeons and after downloading the 2nd Edition Demo Kit, I decided to paint the necessary minis.

I will post my finished minis here and I also have a blog (albeit in German) where I post indepth descriptions of the colors, techniques, etc.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys.

Quick update: While my ebay activities keep me from finishing my cultists at the moment, they make enough money to buy me a multi-purpose (Malifaux and Strange Aeons) gaming mat. It's a F.A.T. Mat Swamp 3'x3' by Frontline Gaming.

The Cultists for the Demo Kit are done. For the color scheme I went with similar colors to the fishman.

I'm pretty habby with the way the robes turned out. But the hoods .. I need to get a grip on how to paint whites some day.

Comments are highly appreciated.

I really like the look of your cultists. I think you did great with the white, as I have a hard time myself with using white paint. All in all keep up the good work.

Bah!  I have been looking at painted toys soldiers for 50 years now (I do *not* claim to be a great painter myself).  I have no issues with their hoods at all.  They look fine to me.

I love that slimy look.

Nothing wrong with those Cultists either.
Very tidy.

Oh, and welcome to the Cult.
You may find that you have left your sanity at the door.

The malifaux fishman and copplestone cultists are both good looking models.  The photo isn't the best but it looks like a cool white coming out of greys and it plays nicely with your black into blue robes.  If you wanted a contrast rather than the harmony you could have painted them a warm white (beige-white) but I really like them as they are.  A crisp, clean paint really works well with those sculpts and you made them striking.

I also think the cultists are fine, I doubt the robes stayed Clorox clean for long.  They actually make me think of the Inquisition (Catholic church not 40K.)  Maybe VUK needs to have an inquisitional strike force as an option.

I have already got one for my Vatican Action Teams (VAT).  My "Spanish Inquisition" (the cardnials of Monty Python fame) are off being painted now.  They are quite nice and not too expensive that I could not get 2 figures from down under and have them painted in Sri Lanka.

Receiving idols from strange, exotic places?  That have had ritual processing?  You might want to perform a purification ritual on them before you open the box.

Yes, I was thinking of Ms. Lamb's little ensemble.  Other than they are a bit more jolly than the Copplestone miniatures.
