Artizan designs have put the first of their arab revolt figures on the site .

NEW ARAB REVOLT RANGE
5 November 2008 : The First packs have been released from the new First World War arab Revolt Range. Available now are ARB000 T.E. Lawrence,ARB001 Arab Irregular Command,ARB002 Arab Irregulars I,ARB003 Arab Irregulars II,ARB004 Arab Irregulars III,ARB100 Arab Irregular Starter Pack (ARB000,001,002,003,004). This is a joint range with Brigade Games and is available via their website for all US customers.

I feel most of these could also be used for the Rif Wars and other 'Arab' skirmishes.

on the artizan yahoo site they say they will have more figures plus mounted (camels and horses) out before xmas

OK, arabs already released [by the way, I am not sure whether they will be suitable for Rif wars], some frency partizans already announced and photos released, so there is lot of exciting new from Artizan!
More thrilling tales, I wonder what they will be?

Rif wars should rather be the 'North African' style Tuaregs and the likes, shouldn't it?

Participants in the Rif Wars would be mostly Berber, somewhat different from the Arab style.
However, both 'types' would have been present.
Extremely oversimplified you had- and have- the true Berbers and the more 'Arabic' berbers.
That distinction still exists. Most Morrocan immigrants in Europe are Berber and speak their own language, ie Berber, a language that is quite distinct from Arabic.
It is certainly possible to assemble a 'generic' Arab style army and by simply adding a handful of specific figures you could have an acceptable Berber or even Sanusi army.

a second thought. I also do not think that tuaregs have anything to do with the Rif wars.
Berbers are in the mountain terrain of Atlas mountains, while tuaregs are in the deep Sahara. Even the lions of Atlas mountains are different than the other african plains lions.
I think that Spanish did confront tuaregs in other regions like Rio de Oro/Spanish Sahara which is still fighting for their independence.
By the way tuaregs is the only muslim tribe that still uses cross as one of their symbols! [see their camel saddles]
