Once again crossposting here and the Old West board.(Spiritually here, but geographically there!) lol
More of Matthew Bickley's superb sculpts.
Introducing the Presidial cavalry garrisoned throughout Texas, California, New Mexico etc.
The traditional enemies of Zorro, or Texian rebels, or Commanches or Apaches or anybody else you care to mention.
The dashing Captain Alforno - in love with the Governors daughter..

Here he is mounted. (the horse is a WIP and needs mane, tail, tack etc.)

Sargento Garcia - His inept and overweight right hand man...

Sargento Garcia Mounted:

Troopers - drawn from the humblest, poorest peasants of both Mexican and Indian stock. Brave, hardened fighters, capable with lance, sword or Escopeta:

Each trooper has a mounted version, open handed ready to add a lance.

I would have liked to have these ready for sale before Christmas along with Zorro, but it looks like it will be early in the new year, by the time they are cast, ther horses finished etc.
Matthew is about to start on my next pack- a group of Tejano or Mexican Vaqueros- wearing traditional riding dress, Serapes, ponchos, low crowned Sombreros etc, armed with a mixture of muskets, flintlock rifles,Escopetas and pistols. All will have mounted and dismounted versions.
They will be suitable as bandits, Texian cavalry, early Texas Rangers or enemies/allies of Zorro.
After that the evil Governor, his beautiful daughter and some American interlopers...

Really nice stuff. :) Very finely detailed too, almost makes me want to start Old West gaming now.
Almost....
-
Oh yes!
Especially Sgt Garcia. He's absolutely spot-on. :-*
Yet another period to become addicted to. Will it never end? >:(

Well, it's closer to Napoleonic era really. Sure you can't squeeze it in somewhere? ;)
-
Quite right, JB.
And you'd only need maybe 20, or perhaps 30, possibly 40-50 figures, as it's only a skirmish game lol
edit Ha! Just remembered I have a couple of dozen Apache loitering somewhere, so how can I possibly not buy some Presidials for them to massacre :D
Also my birthday is in February, so if Malamute can get them released before then...........
-
Almost....
No true Scotsman almost gets started in something! He fully embraces awesome miniatures that catch his fancy, especially ones like this.
Well done Malamute, and well done Matthew Bickley! Sergeant Garcia is totally my favorite. I'll have to practice painting 5 o'clock shadow in preparation for him.
Okay, back to ogling pix.

Ah, but he's not quite in Scotland....... lol
-
Very very nice and as others say the Seargant is awesome. As with the previous ones I have absolutely no use for or desire to create a use for these but I think I will have to get some just to paint them.
Again I salute you sir.
-
These are cracking figures Malamute, full of character
-
Fantastic work! You didnt do them justice when we spoke about them yesterday.
Looks like I'm going to start work on a new period. Sigh! I feel a good old Mexican yarn coming on.
-
Those are great minis
Just great 8)
Dodge
-
I'm speechless (you know this doesn't happen very often...).
Lancers, follow meeeeeeeeeeeee!!!
-
I don't usually respond to these new minis threads, but these are great!
-
Excellent! I will have to add ome of these to my LotW Alamo Mexicans. they should fit in quite nicely with the Artizan infantry I already have. With the dismounted figures I will be able to use them for some skirmish games with Apaches, navaho, etc, as well as the odd Zorro inspired game :)

I am adding figures specifically for the Alamo period as well, sometime in the spring next year.
-
Please let us know when and where we can purchase these!
Its gunna be hard to wait! ;D
-
They are fantastic! Is it just the 3 troopers or are there going to be a few more? :-*
They are so full of character, I can't wait to have them. If the Alamo stuff are as good as these I'll jump into this era with both feet.
Well done Malamute!

Well done Malamute!
If they sell well enough I might add an other pack of Presidials. ;)
but I am planning to add Mexican Dragoons as the next Mexican unit, (lovely red tuincs and crested helmets.) or some Mexican infantry, probably the Cazadores, sharpshooters armed with the Baker rifle....
I am itching to do them, they could be a great set with loads of character, I fancy a sniper wearing a bandana crounched down behind a tree stump...
So much potential ;D
-
Downright awesome! :o
Please keep us updated on a release!

Looks good!

How about the lancers from 'Vera Cruz' (Or did Foundry make them already..)?
-
Are there any plans for civilians?
By this I mean the more "well to do" type of Mexican/Californian. Assuming Foundry still do peons in their western ranges, we will still need plenty of gentlemen in typical dress, not to mention ladies. As I know you like to have plenty of bystanders who are not directly involved in your Victorian games, I assume there will be plans for these in Zorro too?

Oh yes, pack number ... comprises one Mexican gentleman in smart suit, one gentleman with serape and riding clothes, one man in poncho, an older lady in typical Spanish black clothes, the governors feisty daughter and a peasant riding a donkey... not to mention the obligatory priest/monk
-
I am so going to create a Gloire scenario where you have to woo milady while avoiding prowling mantilla-clad senoras.
-
Am I being the only stupid one ;D
What company will be releasing these?
-
Malamute has commissioned these fine figures through his own agency, not through any existing company.

The man is correct, I will be releasing them under a new company early in the new year. Keep an eye on the boards here for updates.
-
On a related note, Patrick at TVAG now has the Mexican Wars flags in stock. I have most of his 19th C. Chinese Flags collection and one of his Mahdist Wars sets. If these new ones are half as good, they will be well worth purchasing.

Well spotted that man. They will be perfect. :)

Are we any closer to a release? Has Zorro made it to the production stage?

Not yet, picking up more greens next week or the week after, then its off to the mould makers, so expect them to be available end of feb, early march. I wanted to get a decent mix of figures for the first release.
-
hmmm... that's soon.... ;)

Beautiful stuff. Would you be willing to give any advice to fellow gamers contemplating a similar move? I've been tinkering with a business idea in the same vein myself (albeit with different subject matter for the sculpts). Would be interested in your thoughts on the process, if you're willing to share.
