Title: My Mosque in the Back of Beyond
Post by: marianas_gamer on 19 September 2015, 08:04:37 AM
So, for my birthday I received one of the great Kobbleston mosques for my birthday (Thanks Mom!). This is a large, detailed, and somewhat intimidating set of castings.

(http://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s360/marianas_gamer/Mosque_zpsu5qnu7mt.jpg) (http://s511.photobucket.com/user/marianas_gamer/media/Mosque_zpsu5qnu7mt.jpg.html)

In an effort to force myself to move forward on this I thought that I would post my progress of painting this beast.  I decided to start with the tower and domes. I am painting the mosque as a composite mud brick and stone structure with ceramic tile and cast bronze details.  Here is the muezzin's tower.

(http://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s360/marianas_gamer/2015-08-31%2020.04.07_zpskhoddkn1.jpg) (http://s511.photobucket.com/user/marianas_gamer/media/2015-08-31%2020.04.07_zpskhoddkn1.jpg.html)

Wow. That's an impressive model, Lon.
Never actually heard of that manufacturer before. Will have to check out what else they do.
Good luck with the painting. It's going to look great, I'm sure.

Thanks for the nice comment fellows.  It was a rainy Sunday here, while another tropical depression is building over us, so I had time to do some more painting.  Here are two more panels done. First the easiest.

(http://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s360/marianas_gamer/2015-09-17%2018.28.09_zpsaxhfohbd.jpg) (http://s511.photobucket.com/user/marianas_gamer/media/2015-09-17%2018.28.09_zpsaxhfohbd.jpg.html)

1st paint layer.

(http://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s360/marianas_gamer/2015-09-18%2005.58.17_zpsavnf5kec.jpg) (http://s511.photobucket.com/user/marianas_gamer/media/2015-09-18%2005.58.17_zpsavnf5kec.jpg.html)

2nd paint layer.

(http://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s360/marianas_gamer/2015-09-18%2019.44.22_zpsclyphg0n.jpg) (http://s511.photobucket.com/user/marianas_gamer/media/2015-09-18%2019.44.22_zpsclyphg0n.jpg.html)

3rd paint layer

(http://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s360/marianas_gamer/2015-09-18%2020.04.13_zpsjvprzx3i.jpg) (http://s511.photobucket.com/user/marianas_gamer/media/2015-09-18%2020.04.13_zpsjvprzx3i.jpg.html)

Next the back door to the mosque where there is sure to be nefarious goings on later.
1st layer of paint.

(http://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s360/marianas_gamer/2015-09-20%2018.38.56_zpsdckchyoy.jpg) (http://s511.photobucket.com/user/marianas_gamer/media/2015-09-20%2018.38.56_zpsdckchyoy.jpg.html)

2nd layer of paint.

(http://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s360/marianas_gamer/2015-09-20%2019.11.44_zpseaefytjn.jpg) (http://s511.photobucket.com/user/marianas_gamer/media/2015-09-20%2019.11.44_zpseaefytjn.jpg.html)

3rd layer of paint.

(http://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s360/marianas_gamer/2015-09-20%2019.31.10_zpsayn6nyim.jpg) (http://s511.photobucket.com/user/marianas_gamer/media/2015-09-20%2019.31.10_zpsayn6nyim.jpg.html)

Finally a view of the side of the mosque that is mostly painted at this point.

(http://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s360/marianas_gamer/2015-09-20%2019.39.21_zpsty1sza7f.jpg) (http://s511.photobucket.com/user/marianas_gamer/media/2015-09-20%2019.39.21_zpsty1sza7f.jpg.html)

Once I have gotten going on this project it has painted up surprisingly fast.

Progress on my mosque continues. The last two weeks I have been working on the showy entrances. The windows and their surrounds were fairly time intensive but I am happy how they turned out.  I think that I have a new recipe for windows now that will translate into a big Pulp building that is on the painting stocks for the future.  Here is the first entrance with black undercoat.

Here is an idea of how the entrances come together on the mosque.

Sorry the photo is a little washed out. I had to bring in extra light so that the shadowed doors could be seen. As always my photography is less than inspired.

All that remains are they two ends of the mosque.  They will be more difficult to paint because they are attached to the box structure of the mosque.  Also, the one end has the Muezzin's tower and will be fairly complex and fun to paint.

So it has been quite a while since I posted on my mosque.  I will plead that I have declared this the year of the Warlord Chinese and have been pumping them out........ until I got distracted by a bunch of U.S. Siberian AEF minis (still half painted) and now my mosque  -Oh,LOOK so shiny!-  I have been disciplined enough to keep everything confined to the Back of the Beyond (except for the busty lady spearfisherwoman for a pal -28mm I swear!- and then those Inca traders with a pack llama for another pal) That's my story and I am sticking to it. Anyway on to the mosque.  Here is the end opposite to the muezzin's tower.

Here is the end with the muezzin's tower, which was much tougher to paint than it might appear.  Lots of nooks and crannies plus some problems balancing.

In general, I am very pleased with the building and would heartily recommend Kobblestone buildings to the membership of LAF. Very nice models at a good price. Plus the fellows at Kobblestone are good people. I imagine that this mosque and its resident imam will be a thorn in the side of the Dogmeat General in the coming years. I am only hoping that it will avoid the Beast of Bukhara's attention so that there is not an incursion of  fanatics and "agricultural implements" here on Guam  lol lol lol
As always comments and critique welcome. It is how I learn and improve.
