... but in my defence, it was a commission for Northstar.

Wow cracking paint job
-
I love these so much. Outstanding job, on the painting, naturally, but also on the modelling - the twin thugs are inspired!
-
Very nice as usual Paul. I like the twins ;)
Any slightly bigger piccies, so we enjoy your masterful paintwork even more? :)
-
Absolutely brilliant. :-*
Great idea regarding the twins (will shamelessly copy that).
-
Brilliant! :-* And I love the snow...a lot of the time I find wargaming snow looks too powdery (and too much of it) but that looks absolutely spot on!
-
Breathtaking!
-
No, you're not. I am still converting and haven't started painting yet.
These look great by the way.
-
Yep, still kitbashing and converting here too. ;)
Lovely work as usual. :D
-
Wow! Those are amazing, stored away that enchanter for future reference. :D
Love the strings on the bows.
-
Wow amazing painting.will be borrowing inspiration when I finally get around to painting mine.especially the wizard's hammer.thanks for sharing

What a reward for a bit longer waiting ...! Marvelous painting! And yes, slightly larger pics would be appreciated.
:-*
-
Lovely figures, very gritty
-
Wonderful brushwork and great colour choices!
:-* :-*
That construct makes me want to do another warband to add my tin man to.
:D
-
Great painting work!
-
Indeed. Frostgrave? What is that?-)

Jeez, you people are more demanding than my missus after a bottle of prosecco. Here we go with some bigger pics then.

Fantastic painting!

So, to deal with some of the generous comments -
The twins I can't take credit for, sadly. Nick at Northstar gave me a specific list of what guys he wanted in his warband and how he wanted them equipped (including the crossbowman with only one eye and a big scar over the right one). He definitely specified the woolly hats for the twins and similar attire.
The snow is railway snow flock. I dabbed some very pale grey patches where I wanted it to go, then put two layers of flock on top, allowing the first to dry thoroughly and brushing off the excess. It's just where I wanted it - patchy bits of snow that haven't quite melted yet; sparkly with just a hint of translucency.
The bow strings are a bristle from my cheapo plastic dustpan and brush set I keep in the studio. It's one strand split down the middle (they're pretty fibrous and separate easily). It has the advantage of being relatively robust and durable, very flexible, very easy to cut and it takes superglue pretty well. The annoy bit was trying to poke it in place whilst the glue dried, then finding it had stuck to the end of the cocktail stick instead. This only happened about a thousand times.
The arrow is a pin, with folded paper for the flights (much easier to stick a little piece of paper on first and then cut it to shape with scissors) glued on. Then I chopped it off at the pointy end and shaped it with a mini-drill grinder.
The hammer I couldn't resist. It's a bit 40K power-weapony, but I thought the way he's swinging it around all dramatic-like, plus the fact that the construct's eyes would be glowing blue as well ... I couldn't resist. Giving him the blue lightning thingy was a way to make him stand out from the rest of the band and also tie in with the magic controlling the construct. How did I paint it? Honestly ... I Googled it and found some very good tutorials!
In general the colours I wanted to keep drab and dark. There's a dark overall feel to the game I think and I wanted to show that in the way they've all got browns, greys, blacks. I also wanted a theme of drab green and black as the Enchanter's livery, to tie in all his employees and followers.

:o
Such details on the faces! The big pictures were worth the time to take! Fantastic work!
-
Well they are alright I spose ... if you like that sort of thing.
Just off to burn my brushes. ;D
Wonderful stuff.
-
Simply breathtaking. Especially love the faces, and the overall dark tone.
-
The best I've seen these minis done. Loving the muted palette - beautiful. :-*
-
Fanastic work :-*
But not the last, there's some of us a lot slower than you ;D
-
Fantastic faces. Truly inspiring. I also really like the worn leather effect you have achieved with the various leathers. Thanks for sharing.
-
Stonking. I am note versed in Froztgraveiana but those smith-wizards (?) look very much the business. As the rest but those mentioned are my favorites of the batch.
-
Lush :-*
The hammer is a triumph.
-
Disgustingly good as always, you should be ashamed of yourself! *bats with handbag*
-
Great brush work on these Cubs! Really great faces, and like others have said the muted pallete works really well.
-
Mehh... They're alright...
I am kidding of course. Awesome job! I actually got myself those wizards, so I am definitely keeping these pics handy for when I paint mine.
-
Indeed. The paintjob is outstanding and the choices of colors used is well done. ;-)
-
In fact, now that I have begun assembling my warband, I might also steal some of the colours on the warband members as well. They are simply stunning!
-
Great painting job! The thief is awesome, love how you worked on his face... Yep, very very good.

Thanks, i was a bit worried about him to be honest, because the photograph makes him look like he's got wonky eyes! I promise he doesn't ... at least I don't think he has.
