Post by: FunkyBrush on 25 September 2015, 08:23:42 PM
Hello Guys.

I finally managed to finish my Sohei Buntai. I painted them two years ago and did the bases last week.  lol

Great work, how do you paint orange, always struggled with that colour

Thanks!

I'm really struggling to remember. Two years is a long time. But I think I mixed vallejo blood red with gold yellow for the basecoat. I added more gold yellow for the second and third layer. Maybe some additional white or elf skintone for the a fourth layer. But I'm not realy sure about that. You should use white primer for such bright colours. Blackys should have a much harder time.

I should also have mentioned that I think that you have every reason to be proud of those 'whites' too.

Thanks Guys! I didn't know I was so good at oranges lol
I was actually regreting that I didn't paint them black.
Orange is the new black I guess . ;D

The colours are nice and crisp. Yes I think you are good at oranges but I suspect other colours as well.

Why so long after painting them before finishing the bases, usually when I have painted something I can't wait to get it on the table for a game.  :)

Thanks!

After uploading I noticed how dark the pictures turned out. I recreated them today with better light (aka Daylight).

Thanks.

During the last few months, I was tinkering on a little japanese edo town project. The project isn't finished yet but here are some completed houses and some WIP pics.
They are made from plastic card, coffee sticks and paper (the doors and windows). The tiled roof is made from textured plastic card from the architectural supplies store. The boxes in the last picture are from the 1€ store. I used them for the main body of the two storey houses instead plastic card.

Big thank you to Jimbibbly, who was a giant inspiration!

Yellow plastic card (0,5mm). I cut them out with this thingy I found in a 1€ store. Don't know what its called but I think its for punching holes in leather.

Its maybe more asian themed fantasy than historical but who cares.

The buddha is lovely and very atmospheric, but the buildings are absolutely fantastic. I hope you don't mind me taking inspiration from them, they're exactly what I've been thinking of as an ideal centerpiece for some Ronin battles.

Your painting is sublime. The Sohei are the figures I intend to get for Ronin and your pictures will prove invaluable and inspirational when I get to painting them! Love the Buddha scenery, too!
