Title: Rogvald's Frostgrave (4/13)
Post by: ayak333 on 28 September 2015, 04:10:53 PM
Hey everybody, I haven't purchased the frostgrave rule set yet (boo, hiss). But, Ive been bitten by the bug. After gaining much inspiration from this forum, check out the table I prepared.

Lovely table.  You will likely need to fill up some of the open LOS areas.  But that looks to be 4x8?  If so, you have plenty to make a really dense 4x4 table with enough left over to do a smaller 2nd table no problem.

And the $5 birdhouse castle tower rocks.  I got 4 of them, broke the small keep out of them, distressed them and graveled them.  you can see them in action on my post:  http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=82917.0

BTW, get the rulebook.  :)

Despite a love of well based terrain,I like to keep my table and terrain as modular as possible.
This pegasus hobbies kit bash will remain unbased because there are too many possibilities that would be foregone if based.

The Brand is Lemax. They are rather glossy out of the box, so I recommend a grey dry-brush. They were on sale at craft stores here in the states during the christmas season. Wish I bought more of them though.....

Hey, they look nice! I love your Knight model there - really nice, natural pose from a combination of kits. Great job and, as jp1885, I'm glad that my few kitbashing efforts helped inspire this gang.

This is a warhammer age of sigmar building, not sure what its called anymore. I quite like it, reminds me of the blades sanctuary or high hrothgar in skyrim. I may do a black wash over the gold areas, havent decided yet.

and here's a wip. I used cardboard for the base stengthened with a little hotglue. The model was glued to the base with hot glue and pva.  I think the model will stop any warping. the hotglue helps as well.

I also made this out of cardboard, hotglue, aquarium rocks and sand

Pretty excited about these pieces, they're all built from cork tile and cardboard.  Really easy to make! The hardest part was the arches, but still minimal difficulty.

Never thought of using cork?!? Don't tell me, jp, you are not familiar with Matakishi's seminal work in this area?:
http://www.matakishi.com/corkbasics.htm

There's pages of buildings for lots of periods/genres. Here's the Fantasy one but have a good crawl round the site - there's so much brilliant stuff:

Some Draugr painted up.The LOTR army of the dead now have some reinforcements. The non LOTR minis are warlord celts with mantic ghoul and GW skeleton heads. These guys feel a little like the Game of Thrones white walkers and zombies.

I wish I took a WIP picture of this rubble pile.  It's made from a cardboard base, one folded up piece of paper towel covered in a little water then PVA, irregularly cut cork tile pieces, and wooden coffee stirrers.

This is the largely completed dollar store baby cart now turned awesome wagon.  The carriage is quite roomy and can fit 2 25mm bases no problem.  Here's the pre painted look: http://rogvaldmwb.blogspot.com/2016/04/cork-terrain-update-and-horse-cart.html
(https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-BQBfnqFWGwI/VyJu0MgmBJI/AAAAAAAADs4/wXqeIi-illYr8iAa6_OqbSfCktbk7AGzwCL0B/w795-h447-no/16%2B-%2B1)

Here's a scratch built table from wooden coffee stirrers.  The beer barrel is a GW bit and was not glued on. Which was not done to ensure the tables variety of uses.

This model's helmet was bugging the crap out of me.  The aventail was suffering from serious wind flow, and this slowly advancing model did not seem like he would incur that type of wind.  So my novice green stuff skills were put to the test. After a little knife work the green stuff was applied.  One tip I utilized was the use of water to avoid finger prints.  Im quite pleased with the result

Great scenery really improves the experience, and having your minis painted too. And even more when it's done so well.

A terrific table.
I think I'm going to have to go for some of the Pegasus stuff, and I wish I could get hold of those cobblestone mats here in the UK. Personally, I think you should go for a black wash on the bronze. I'd recommend a bit of brown in the wash as well so that it doesn't look too stark. Try it on a small bit first and see if you like it.

Hello all!
I'll start small with a Magical Bow treasure token. These are GB muslim cavalry bits on a coin on top of sand.

Can you see the Dragon face? NO? oh well. This was a really quick terrain build, and is made of dollar store foamboard.  A cd was used to cut out the template, and the cd was used to base the cut cut foamcore. I took a cup to draw the inner circle, I crudely drew a pentagram, then took a penny to indent the smaller circles. Went to the internet for some magic symbols, and then carved some cobble. And glued the gems. I drybrushed some gold paint post this picture to show a magical glow.
