Title: "Dusky" skintone
Post by: Rhoderic on 14 November 2008, 09:37:52 PM
I'm having serious difficulty mixing up a good dusky skintone. I've never been happy with my old way (about 50/50 Bronzed Flesh and Snakebite Leather, GW colours both). What do you guys use?

Dusky?  :? Do you mean like middle-east skin tone?

Pretty much, yeah. Perhaps a bit broader.

Ok. In this case I first apply a coat of diluted (with water) Tamiya’s Flat Brown then I paint the detail with Tallarn Flesh (GW Foundation paint) straight from the pot (no mix). Don’t know if it will work for you but that’s the way I have painted the 2 first pirates from the left on the sixth photo of this tread:

Hope that help!  :)

I use foundry Dusky Flesh A, B, C, works well...or Dusky lfesh A, and Chestnut B, C, and flesh C as a final highlight...looks good.

Second that, Foundry's Dusky Flesh is worth a closer look, if you're aiming for a pale brown. You could use sepoy1857's Chestnut version for a reddish appearance, or for golden highlights add a buff leather tone. It turns out like this:

I think the trick is to start with a dark brown as base colour.
