Hi all,
I've been building up my vehicle park for gaming Dredd and am after a 28mm scale H-wagon. I have found 2 toys so far,
A transformer ship:

Or a 'Lost in Space' Jupiter 2 toy from the 90's film.

Not sure which one to go for. The Jupiter 2 catches the look of the comic H-wagons better but the Transformer has a certain brutal law enforcement look about it. Thoughts?

I don't know what the original should look like, but for me the Transformers toy there just looks right to me for something the judges would use.
-
These are both good choices.
-
I vote for the Transformer toy, it looks more "brutal".
-
A good yellow, black and red pj will sort that transformer toy right out. Why not turn the other into a civilian vehicle? Maybe a bus bus or something?

There is your answer!
They are both too good to turn any of them down.
Do both!
:D

Dammit, was hoping everyone would share my preference for the Lost in Space ship :)
I'll get them both painted and then decide.
-
I do prefer the Lost in Space one, actually. It looks more "police-y" to me. The Transformers one strikes me more as something an invasion force would use.

I'd be in favour of that one, too. A similar one featured in an older story (mid-1980s), I think by Ron Smith (see attachment). I quite like the asymmetric layout, although the bubbles should obviously be clear with a cockpit in front and a perp holding pen in the rear. :D
Actually, I once tried to convert a Revell Star Wars land speeder to something similar, but the paint reacted somewhat fiercely with the factory paintjob of the kit for an awfully spotty result.

That's one of the looks I was after but with a bit more of a curve like this:

or like this one from the Mongoose RPG book:

Lost in Space ship is so much more Dredd. A read Carlos Ezquerravibe. Go with that one.
-
Lost in Space ship is deftly closer to the artwork. The Transformers with the removal of guns and fins could make a good hauler possibly for a Cursed Earth land train.
-
Nothing new to add: the Lost ship is closer to the H wagon, the other one deserves being used as well. If you want it for the Judges make it a special vehicle - an SJS transport, for example.
-
Toss a coin. IMHO either way you win! :D
-
Both work as vehicles for me, so both need converting into ships, but the lost in space one is like your inspiration.
Perhaps lost in space is dredd and transformers is military/secret police?
Cheers
Matt

Both work, but the first is more military in style, might fit with some of the more war style story lines in Judge Dredd that I remember from so long ago.. ::) - call it Mk II - for dealing with military incursions, eg Sov Bloc invasion etc

Yes thats it.
The lost in space much better fits the old style vibe I remember with the curves, Weaponry hidden, until deployed etc
Call it Mk 1 for policing civvies, and not for Warfare against the Sov Bloc etc, lighter duties as such. That way you got two to paint up for Judicial purposes :)

Thanks for the replies all.
I'm going to paint the Transformers one up as a 'Gunbird' which isn't mentioned much in the comics but is an attack h-wagon.
I'll use the Lost in Space ship as the H-wagon and am going to try and source a good clear canopy as per Westfalia Chris's suggestion.
Now lawpods.....
These are unmanned small transport ships used by the judges, only picture I have is this one:

So a basic utility shuttle. The closest I can find is the Forge World Arvus Lighter, can anyone suggest any alternatives?

They have a number of the old Ground Zero Games stuff (licensed, no knock off) A number of unarmed drop ship types in there.
Under the 6mm stuff are the big rig and big bertra dropships, they have the look of that picture. Despite being 6mm they work quite well with larger scales. if you google for their names you should find pictures of them being used with 15 and 28mm stuff.

To be honest, both will work. H-Wagon design in the comic was very much dependent on whoever was drawing it at the time.
These are my faves from The Apocalypse War (http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_CHfcL6vQT9Y/SaHkaq3q_7I/AAAAAAAABZk/_4UopE9yp1o/s400/Ezquerra-H-Wagons.jpg)
You could always use the Transformer one as a pseudo Manta tank?
