Title: Conquest of the new world
Post by: Irishvince on 05 November 2015, 08:02:27 PM
Is anyone doing historical wargaming featuring the spanish discovery of the new world?

Mainly spanish vs Mayan/Incan in a jungle table with pyramid.

I would be curious to see what you did. Also what range of miniatures (28mm) would be good for this?

Plenty of manufacturers do Conquistador and Inca/Aztec/Mayan ranges that would be suitable, check out Lucid Eye for their South American types in the Savage Core range too.

Foundry and our own Ged (Gringos40) of course, the new Warlord wars of religion range would also suit.

Eureka Miniatures have a range of 28mm Aztecs and Conquistadors. They also have a beautiful range of Mayans which aren't in their catalogue. If you ask Nic nicely he may cast some up for you.

Do you know if there are pictures of the range anywhere?

I do Incas and Conquistadors, but in 10mm. I can't take the "twenty-five figures are an army" of large scales.

Sorry the pix aren't up to much. Obelisk and Pendraken figures, and a few Irregular Miniatures.

Rhoderic,
The only pictures I could find, and this was a few years ago, were on the site of someone who apparently collected all of Eureka's figures.
Chronofus was the guy's web name, I think. He had scans of all the Eureka Mayans, Aztecs and Conquistadors.

Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Gringo 40's do a nice meso-American range as well. Here are a couple of Mayans and an Aztec I painted for Ged.

I have used it more than once, even though as a Melbournian I have the luxury of going to the shop when it's open and viewing "new" things.

I'm slowly painting up some Mesoamericans, as seen here:

I am not so interested in conquistadors at the moment however; maybe later on.

Right now TAG is far and away your best choice for Aztecs. Gringo 40 does an excellent but small range of Maya, and Steve Saleh does a great range of Huaxteca, know marketed as "Jaguar Tribe" from his Savage Core series. Eureka's Aztecs don't do much for me and some of their figures are more than usually ahistorical.

Nic doesn't send me new releases anymore, so I don't update it anymore. I really want to rebuild the whole site, but time, life, stuff, the usual prevents me focusing on it.

Last I spoke to Nic early? this year he mentioned he wanted to expand some of the Mayans before officially releasing them, after Kosta did some more moderns, though plans could easily have changed since then.

Sorry I can't be more useful, but the ones pictured are all the ones I know of.

Thanks, swamp_wallaby and von Lucky! I'm only sorry I'd not been aware of that site until now :)
