The underground network of red shadow supporters had already notified me about your post on the SD-forum. :)
All the Alt-/Weird WW2 figs are becoming interesting for Red Shadow Projects.
I'm eyeing the Westwind SoTR bits and zombies for my Shadows project.

I used a an old 1/35 tiger tank brass detail set, they come in very handy for jobs like this..

The Red Shadows were far cooler than Cobra.

I don't know - I will always have a soft spot in my heart for them - that's what we need in 28mm. The forces of Cobra!

Did you check out Soapy's Action Force project?

Oh yes.. it was his blog that put me on the Red Shadow path, some great work!
-
Yes. Foundry WW2. He's got lots more, including some figures sculpted from scratch.
-
Having just had a look at the comic the artists did base the shads uniforms on those well dressed cads the Nazis.
the Action Force toys were a mini Action Man range that was rebranded...
the historical figures were repainted, sometimes with minor resculpts and rereleased as Action Force vs Red Shadows... hence the Muton being the deep sea diver figure, the Red Shadows being German Infantry, Red Laser was the US sculpt for Cobra Commander that Palitoy got on the cheap.... the relaunch then spawned the comic
am very keen on some not-Shadows... my attempts at converting some germans failed miserably.... who, what and when though?

sorry muppetman, should probably have said that that is bloody fine... not a fan of the MaKs usually, but that works so well as something the Baron would have designed... top stuff...

Many thanks.. Great blog btw

Nice work, who makes the Ma.k suit by the way?

Hello,
I ended up following Soapys lead and using foundy WW2 germans as the basis for my red shadows. I had a good look about at other ranges and they still seemed to be the best to use as they were the cleanest looking minis (not too much extra sculpted on) and most like the original figures in terms of kit.
They only downside is that as they are an old foundry range they are touch small, but really that is a bit of a non issue.
Now I need to get them painted!
-
I wanted better guns for mine though... rifles seem a bit meh... they had AK's in the comics and bazookas in the toys!

I had similar thoughts about the weapons, but could not find any minis i could convert that had the right look for the uniform and webbing and had better guns
I thought the rifles would be less wrong looking on the mini than if I had gone with something with the right gun but wrong uniform and equipment. But it is a personal prefernece really.
I would love to see more pics of of red shadows made from other manufacturers minis to see how they turn out. I kind of fancy making some that are a bit more "realistic", but i had better finish what i have alreayd converted first!
-
I can only show you my WIPs from Black Tree germans.
I think the submachine guns work well enough.

They're a bit rough sculpts though, and look like cast from old moulds. I'd use Crusader too, but they're probably too small.
One hell of a job though, making the masks and helmets.
The Baron is a Copplestone B.o.B. german and two grenadier/Em4 skeletrons.

Those are looking very cool :-*
Re-sculpting the heads on mine was bit of a chore, especially as the task grew from "I just need a squad of 10 to 15" to "why do I now have 40 to do" :o
Although I am pretty happy with the outcome, and it did improve my limited sculpting abilities, I really like you head mould idea and wish I had come up with something similar.
I plan on finishing up what I have done and after that may look at getting a few other German minis that have more interesting kit, I like the idea of a few in greatcoats and a few with heavier / different weapons too.
Thanks for the ideas

Use them as a Vampire thrall force in SOTR (Blood Red uniforms symbolising the bloodpact with the Vampire Junker Lords?
Just a suggestion? ;)

To be honest what I am going to use them for, or as, is secondry to me just having them. Once I had seen Soapys blog I knew I had to have a Red Shadow force to help me relive my childhood in 28mm ;)

True, but it give's you an excuse to get more, plus have a pretty unique Weird World war force into the bargain.
Zombie shadows too! ;)

The Crusader Germans I have are at least as big as the BTD ones.
