Hi folks,
Here is one of the last stretch sculpts for the Rise of the Draconids Kickstarter for ShadowSea, the Jade Salamander. It was done in FIMO classic and was a chance to try out a different scale pattern than I have done before. Actually, the technique is probably what other sculptors use all of the time, but it was new for me. The body scales are made by adding layer of clay on top of the previously cured body and then cutting in parallel lines in two directions to make a grid of diamond shapes. Each diamond was pulled and pushed into a scale form, overlapping with other scales below. Super tedious but looks nice in the end, and very even.
This one is going to casting and should be ready soon. There will be a pre-order page for the dino-rider Kalath, the unarmored titanoceratops, the Jade Salamander and some other new figures in a few days so people can get in on the Kickstarter rewards or just get the newest figures.
Hope you like this one. It is 60mm from the bottom foot to the top of the back, so a very large model. All of the draconids are hefty creatures, in the 35-38mm height range, so this one is meant to be a heavy "tank" unit that attacks in a berserk fury.

"Lord Bartleby, the Jade Salamander is at our gates, wouldst thou face him in mortal combat! To save the realm!"
(places quill on desk)
"I would prefer not to."

Oooo, a Texas Skink lizard with an attitude! lol I LIKE it! Just the brute to lead a reptilian warband at the point of attack, and with all that detailing on it's scaly hide, all sorts of possibilities for painting based on real world lizards... 8)
