Hi

Sins I got the ideea and also more often used the 1,2,3 basing for my 28mm skirmish minis I have got a lot of question about way and also of course questions regarding base sizes.

So I put togheter some info regarding my 1,2,3 basing and you find it at my blog. (http://dalauppror.blogspot.se/2015/11/123-basing.html)

Interesting idea Michael, and nicely executed (although I don't think anything will ever now get me off singly-based miniatures :))

Useful info Michael,I'm a fan of your basing system,I take it the Askaris at the bottom are for forthcoming The Men who would be King rules,so this system would work for those too ?  :)

Glad that i got you interest by My basing  ;)

Indeed the Africa minis are for The Men who would be King. The rules are as Lion Rampant and the Pikeman's Lament writen for single based minis but as they are very forgiving regarding basesizes, basing and unit formation the 1,2,3 basing work well for them all.

Very cool idea, particularly if you're doing rank n' file battles without marching them in trays.  I dig it.

Thank you very much !

Have a hard time for trays in casualty removal rules, as pretty soon you end up with holes in them... I even tried to fix that by using empty bases as fillers.

I'm considering using this basing system for some 1672 figures that I purchased from North Star and Age of Glory.  I'm not sure I'll ever do enough of them for large table tops, but this basing system combined with Pikeman's Lament, might give these figures a good reason to complete and play on a small scale.

Funny how things go around. I remember when I started wargaming, way back in the Iron Age, all figures seemed to be based on square or rectangular bases, with varying frontages depending on the troop type. It seemed almost universal that the majority of figures were based in 4s or 3s, with a few 2s and singles for casualty removal.

I do like this idea. It sounds like it would look messy but it actually looks very natural for skirmishing troops.
